Engine knock after timing belt replacement.

So I started the truck after timing belt replacement and the truck is ticking or knocking pretty bad. I I double and triple checked the timing marks and everything seemed to be lined up fine. It does sound like the valves might be making contact but I'm not sure. The noise is also noticeable when under the truck . I was thinking maybe the lifters since it was sitting for a couple weeks but I'm not sure . I just listened again and the noise can be heard out of the exaust downpipes . If the valves are making contact do you think its damaged permanently? Here is a link to a video I took.

sounds like lifters, let it idle 20 minutes or so to see if they pump up, definitely not valves hitting though

Sounds like your off one tooth on the belt. Most likely retarded. The engine may also crank very easily if the cam is retarded and the valves are closing late. If this engine has a cam driven ignition trigger you should be able to see this with a timing light and the change in static timing position on the crankshaft.

You are correct , I was watching a video on YouTube with the same noise. In one of the comments they mentioned a process to charge the hydraulic lifters . Brought up th idle to 3k in 15 seconds release and repeat after about 5 cycles the noise went away. I was so relieved I thought I had royally screwed the engine.
