EXPEDITION ZJ

Alright guys, been while since I've posted anything because I ended up getting rid of the 5.2 liter during my move to North Carolina. However, Good news!!! I picked up two jeeps for the price of half of one!! One is a 96 the other is a 93. The 96 has a slipping transmission, bent front right lower control arm, needs brakes, and the interior is real nasty. Runs great, rides great (despite the completely screwed pinion angle) and I'm hoping the A/c is just an electrical problem because I'm not getting anything out the electronics accept for the aftermarket head unit. The 93 is completely rusted underneath (must be a northern truck) including the control arms one being deteriorated in half, runs rough but the trans is fine, and the interior is immaculate. Both have the 4.0l Straight 6. So........ The trans is coming out of the 93 and going into the 96, changing out all of the front control arms (came with the jeep brand new) and doing the front pads(also came with the jeep.... brand new) then I'm going to salvage what I can from the interior of the 96 and use whatever I need from the interior of the 93. My wife likes leather so the 93 seats are going in there and probably the carpet as well. I need off roading friends so all of my NC wheelers comment away and well link up some weekend.

The 93

And the 96

Curious about the trans swap, as the '93 should be an AW4, and the '96 should have a 42RE. While they will physically interchange, the electronics are completely different, plus the '96 is OBDII compared to the '93's OBDI.

It may not be an issue on that side of the country, but it very much would be here in Arizona, as the emissions testing is done by just scanning the ECU for codes, basically on OBDII vehicles. OBDI is put on the rollers with the sniffer in the tailpipe. I currently am dealing with this, in a way, although slightly different. I put a AX15 5 speed behind the V8 in my '96, and as expected, the computer is throwing a bunch of codes related to the transmission. Putting in a different computer will likely cause issues come emissions time, and I'm not sure how I'll deal with that just yet.

The transmission swap wasn't needed (thank god) the guy I got it from wasn't very mechanically inclined so he assumed the transmission was going bad however it was really just low on fluid. So the engine and trans are good. I pulled the interior and deep cleaned the pans and switch the 93 interior out with the 96 and scraped the rusty 93. Looks good now all I have to do is figure a way to get a title for it in NC. I also have a ton of 93 inteior parts that I didn't end up using that need a new home. Ill post some pictures if anyone is interested.

What color is the interior on the 93?

Its tan, I have mostly dash trim and electronics with the plugs and enough wire to splice. Turn signal switch, ignition switch with key, stock radio, vic, door panels, gauge cluster with 136k, and the cloth seats from the 96. Ill post some pictures of everything later today when I can get to computer.

4 door panels with window controls still in, dash trim, ignition with key, turn signal switch, stock radio, vic, a/c and heat controls, and gauge cluster with 136,106 miles on it. All of the electrical items have the plugs with enough wire to splice and worked fine when I pulled them out. I also have the old grey clothe seats and the center console from the 96 (no hinged lid or container)

Today I decided to take off the side molding, I never really liked how they looked. Now I need to decide on paint, I'm crossed between a deep forest green color and just truck bed lining the whole thing. What do you guys think?

This is my neighbors 2011 grand Cherokee. I like the nose on these a lot and I had an idea to graft the front end onto my jeep. Ill probably borrow it next weekend for some measurements and see how much work it'll actually take. The only thing I'm not to fond of on ZJ's is the front end so ill be doing something different with it.

Check out monstaliner on jeepforum. Its uv resistant and everyone loves it, very mild texture compared to "bedliner" although taht what its called. Its amazingly tough I love my floors with it... The texture is kinda like water on ur car after I wash it I guess lol. Doesn't hurt the feet like my last jeep with herculiner and it doesn't fade like herc did.

88xj- Thanks for the info. I know what you mean about the "water type" texture. Its more smooth than it is rough. Its tintable too which would allow me to have the deep green color I want with all the durability of bed liner. I'm going to give this stuff a try. This would be great for my cargo storage when im done building it as well.

I found this today and I though it was pretty mean looking. I might give this a go and set up some small, low profile led turn signals. The lights this guy got are from PIAA and high/low beam capable which cost 411 bucks. Little too rich for my blood so I'm going to start looking for something little more budget oriented.
