Experience with 235/85R16 on Gen 3?

Hundreds of pages on the subject, not specific to any one vehicle. Why would a Gen III Montero be unique among all the rest with respect to tire noise?

Gen 3 has a very rigid monocoque chassis. There were extremely different noise levels when I swapped the same set of tires between my Gen 3 and Gen 2 (BOF - chassis)

YMMV

I currently run 235/85/16s BFG ATs on my Gen3, and have for several years now. I spend way too much time on the highway, sometimes in 120* heat. I've had the vehicle loaded down for 4 weeks worth of camping and road tripping through the western US and Canada. In our most recent storm, they did just fine on the highway when the snow hadn't been cleared, and when I was in town, I aired them down to 25PSI or so and never had an issue driving around.

I like the tires and the size. I've had the same ones on a WJ and on an FZJ80....no issue whatsoever with any of them.

Of note, on the long road trip we took, the suspension was not up to the added weight, and affected handling quite a bit. I'll be going to an OME system here shortly, so we'll see if the changes how I feel.

I've put about 20k miles on my ST maxx, the cabin noise is maybe "medium". Suits me fine but you will hear them in the cabin especially on the interstate. Would buy again.

I have Axiom 235x85 on mine, reprinted BFG KO design.

I love the tires. I'm on the highway a lot and they have improved fuel economy and the grip is nice. And they are so much quieter than stock tires.

I have noticed the steering is a bit different with these real skinny. Feels a little Topsy.... But besides that, they get me anywhere.... I'm still liking to try them in deep snow.... Just have shallow snow here in cali.

Wondering if a offset would fix the Topsy feel..... Seems like they are tucked in under the truck.... I would like them or a bit further... Maybe another rim or spacer would do it.

I've been wanting to add A OME kit and sliders to it. I did have some slight rub on the left fender... But it was due to previous owner dented the bumper which took a inch.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
After thousands of miles of highway and off highway driving...the noise from the ST/Maxx is extremely reasonable IMHO.
For the AT/MT hybrid that it is, the volume in the cabin is not an issue.
