Father & Son Mojave Road trek

As we were approaching to get a better look out came the spirit guardian of the area. Any of you who have seen Monty Pythons Holy Grail know what could happen next. We could be savagely & bloodily attacked by this beast. Matter of fact I am pretty sure Martín & I both almost soiled our pants at the sight of this killing machine.

He's got a vicious streak a mile wide!

Awesome writeup, Lance...

As soon as I get a/c in the Rover, I want to take my new 10yr old into the "real world".

Did you ever feel nervous doing the MR alone without support? I don't think I would, but I did like having other vehicles with me when I went.

EDIT - Your gnome has backstory: http://www.lrrforums.com/showthread.php?20071-MOJAVE-ROAD-2011-Jonnny-B-Memorial-Trip

Thanks for the link on the gnome...too funny to learn the story behind the strange things we see out there.

My son is working on his Eagle Scout rank, I feel well versed in outdoor skills, we had 10 gals of water, 45 gals of fuel, Spot, Ham, CB, paper maps & gps, checked in with the Ranger in Needles and contacted him post trip, checked in with the Ranger at Hole in the Wall & Kelso Depot, and had cell service for much of the trek.
I would never tell anyone to go it alone, but just as I would expect others to understand why we did, I understand why others like to travel alone.

When we go again to the Mojave Road as I know we will, I will post up to see if anyone can join. But if not then we will go alone..sometimes that is nice & quiet and gives us a chance to talk Father & Son stuff :)

Very nice report. I'd like to do that with all three of my kids 23, 25, and 27. Grown up but still would be nice. Thanks for sharing that trip.

Very cool read.. Its very cool to see teenage kids still wanting to hang out with their dad's.. Luckily mine don't mind hanging out with me too.

Also Nice Troopy.. extremely envious! But I'm really impressed that your son is 13 and already working on his Eagle Scout. My son & I just joined a local Troop too.. I think its the coolest thing for boys.

Great report! I have driven half the mojave trail (chickened out to due to weather) and would love the opportunity to travel the whole route now that my equipment has been upgraded. Thank you for sharing a memorable time with us!

Mojave Rd

Lance, great trip report. Funny, I drove Mojave Rd with a group from the 120 forum mid september and have a lot of the same pictures. The only place we didn't get to was "Hole in the wall", I guess I have something else to pull me back to Mojave Rd.
thanks again for sharing
Josh
