Took a while, but I finally managed to buy that 60 series Diesel Cruiser I've had my eye on for a while.
1982, very stock and simple mechanicals (non-power-assist steering and clutch, 4 speed manual, 3B 4 cylinder diesel engine), only 230,000 kms, strong frame and body, very clean interior. Needs a bit of TLC, new tires and other odds and ends, but it's solid and has recently undergone almost $4000 of mechanical repairs (it had been sitting for a few years before the previous owner bought it to restore and paint the body). I've encountered an issue with a leaking rear brake cylinder that I'll need to fix before I can drive it, and in the meantime I'm treating the typically vulnerable parts of the frame (in the rear) with POR-15 paint. Then I'll get it thoroughly rust-proofed and put it away for the winter. I'll only drive this truck 3 seasons, and won't expose it to winter salt up here in the NOrth-East. The plan is to get familiar with all the mechanicals, do a few upgrades, and eventually get it setup to take me (and others) on excursions up North (Labrador, Northern Quebec, and eventually Yukon/Alaska).
Cheers!
