Friday evening my son Simon(7 years old) and I set off with a couple of friends to accomplish a first for both of us, climb a 14000 foot mountain. The goal was Handies Peak, one of the easier 14er's in Colorado.
We camped in American Basin and dined on a delicious meal of fondu before hitting the sack.
After a 6:30 am alarm we headed up the trail, it was a little chilly fist thing in the morning.
Climbing a 14er with a couple of 7 year olds can be frustrating, plan on stopping for a conversation every 10-15 steps... It was a perfect day and we finally got into a decent rhythm.
We pushed on to the peak and arrived about three hours after we hit the trailhead, not bad for a fat guy and a couple of little kids.:victory:
