Folding bed I designed for my bus, would work good for a van too.

Posted this a few other places, but I think it's a good idea and might be a useful in a standard sized van as it folds to form a shelf and only sticks out about 22".

So here goes: Welded up a steel frame that bolts to the wall track, and straddles some Costco folding-top storage totes. The frame has 3ea removable supports connected by 5/8" pins; when the bed is folded these disconnect, nest together and get stowed. Mattress is a 5" memory foam Full XL (53" W x 79" ) narrowed by 6" to 47". This sits on 3/4" MDO (paper faced, both sides) plywood, 80" x 52". 3ea sections are connected by 6ft aluminum piano hinge. When folded, the top forms a flat shelf and protrudes from the wall about 22". Mattress and hinges both from Amazon.

Looks good. You could also get rid if the couch and use a folding futon bed. They make some really comfortable mattresses now.
