Hi Guys,

Are those custom racks up top, or do you know who made them? Let me know thanks!

Very cool van, I think I have seen you running around the valley.

Very interesting information on the batteries guys, how did they work out for you in Baja. I need to decide on batteries for my hauler still. Like the idea of being able to quick charge the AGMs, but weight and size are not as much of a concern for me and I can get massive reserve cheap with 6 volters.

Again, nice van. I'll wave next time I see ya. :)

Great looking van! I'd have to go to a graphics place and get that scary haloween pumpkin, I think it was in some movie, so some changes could be required....Orange and Black, great!

And you also see me always craning my next to look for progress on your van! :sombrero: Hey, what is that sticker you have on the back window? I can never quite tell.

Yeah, it becomes a real problem when your relationship with the local police is less than ideal. :Wow1:

Or if the local PD associate your vehicle with someone else in your household. Back in High School my brother was a real trouble maker and well known to the PD. I was not. After a number of visits to my parents house they got quite familiar with my truck, a 1952 Willys Pickup, being in the driveway. They had no idea I existed.

SOOOO for a while I kept getting pulled over because the local PD thought my under 16 brother was driving my truck. PITA!

Still having problems with the inverter/batteries. Since some of you guys were so helpful, I thought I'd point you to the new thread I started. We're leaving in two weeks and I really need to have this issue resolved as it's going to be hot as hades down there and I don't want to lose the ARB fridge out in the middle of nowhere.

Weekend Work

Just thought I'd update the thread if for no other reason than for future reference.

Yesterday morning I started getting the van ready for our next trip to Baja. We'll be picking my parents up at the San Diego airport early Tuesday morning, June 28th and hitting the border. They'll be there until July 16, flying out of Los Cabos. We're going to head down to Ensenada, take the highway East to San Felipe for the first night then head south on dirt roads from there, taking at least 4 days to get to La Paz with a heavy emphasis on missions and cave paintings. They haven't been to Baja since the early 70s, and then just down to Rosarito Beach though they've traveled extensively all over Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. We're all real excited and just hope it's not too hot, the trade-off being that the Sea of Cortez is perfect this time of year for all water activites.

Already accomplished was charging the a/c up and getting the two front windows tinted with the best stuff out there, which blocks so much heat. I also had a fabricator make a metal sleeve that fit the read a/c duct and mated that to a dryer vent. When completed (with the sleeping deck back in), it will have a 90 degree elbow that will blow air at the back of the bench seat. It's incredible just how much cold air this has recovered. I don't know how we survived on the other trips without it! In the pic you'll see what's left of the foam insulation before I cleaned it up. Not real pretty, but very functional!

I also got the deck out, sanded to remove a decent amount of rust, coated in rust treatment and then about 5 coats of primer and a few topcoats of flat black. You'll also notice some weather stripping around the rear door where we have the biggest problem with dust entering. I'm hoping that between that and keeping front and rear a/c on high the whole time (thus pressurizing the cabin), dust will be much less of an issue this time around.
