There are services that will give it a full inspection, not sure what it's called but google it and I'm sure you will find one then you can Yelp them to see if they are reputable.

Or ask here! I'm sure there is a member here who lives nearby willing to at least give you an honest opinion of the overall condition of the van.

So...Has anyone ever bought a diesel van sight unseen?

I pretty much did on the current one.
Told the seller to send me pics and videos, he did. Agreed to a price on the phone that was 1500 lower then he wanted but the catch was I would show up with cash and just buy it.
I jumped on a plane 900 miles north and bought it.

I got the interior pictures yesterday afternoon and didn't get a chance to call back yesterday. What price did you get quoted? You can PM if you don't want to broadcast it, just curious what they would have come off of the asking price.
Now I know I have some competition in the van search! I'm in the DC metro area if you need me to check any out for you.

$15328 OTD (plus tax tag titel in GA).....I was going to try to talk them down cause I thought that was still too much....but someone else didn't. :)

I"m actually from the DC area and have a ton of friends/family up there, but thanks for the offer...I would be happy to do the same for you in the Atlanta are....almost bought a 1999 cargo van 7.3 with 88K miles up your way last week for $4900 but it had no AC (I was quoted $2500 to have installed 3rd party...Ford doesn't sell the AC parts anymore). I had a mechanic friend check it out. He said it was clean and had a service history and not banged up but it had a strong oil smell in the van....motor was tight but it was used by a oil furnace repair company or something. My wife is VERY sensitive to smells, so between that and the AC issue, I passed. Wish I could have smelled it myself. I think it was a company liquidating their service vans and they still have some if you are interested in checking them out in person...they are out near Annapolis.
