Frame material?

I would build the main structural area with the 3/16" wall tube. Then if you want to reduce weight in the non-structural areas with thinner tube so be it.

definitely overkill, but if you don't mind paying the extra $$ for the thicker material then go for it.

My trailers frame is 2x3 1/8 wall and it's overkill too, but it leave me room for future changes if I want as well. Something else to keep in mind.

The real truth is the trailer manufacturer probably has a large quantity of the 3/16” material in stock and since they use the 3/16” material in quantity it is cheaper than special ordering the 1/8” material.

I needed a particular size of 1/4” wall tubing for a project but my steel supplier offered to substitute 1/2” wall for a much cheaper price.

Steel is usually sold by weight but I have seen many exceptions over my career especially when you are ordering full 20 and 40 foot lengths
