Fuel pump issues

Just a quick reminder. Check simple things first. After months of erratic acceleration weirdness, prolonged cranking and no starts. My feeble mind jumped the gun and decided that I needed a fuel pump. WRONG. After removing the fuel tank (the RRC is an 88). I discovered that this fuel tank and pump were nearly new. Head scratch!! I did install the new fuel pump since I already purchased it. Upon reinstalling the tank , I heard a rattle in the old fuel filter. Huh? I cut the filter open and discovered the filtering element had separated from the housing. Thus causing my problem. It was floating around and blocking fuel flow. Magically the car feels like it has all 10 horsepower working again. My distain has turned to affection. CHECK simple stuff first, don't assume the worst.
