Getting new tires, need insight.

Initial impressions are very good. They ride better than the Nitto's even though I stepped up to an LT. I attribute this to the Duratracs handling the load better. I think the Nitto's were too squishy, so although these are firmer, they actually rock the truck less over speed bumps, driveways, etc which gives a smoother feel overall. Potholes feel slightly stiffer, but I am running them at a higher psi which I may adjust. Normally maintained roads feel just as smooth.

I will post up after I get some highway miles on them, and after I take them off-road. So far I am extremely happy with the purchase, and I have great expectations for them.

As an added benefit, they look 100X better on my rig. They are much more aggressive looking; the Nitto's looked like highway tires. They definitely changed the appearance of my entire truck.

So far so good with mine. I think you will like them.

To go off thread a little, went driving around Lower Klamath Lake National Wildlife Refuge last weekend (the raptors are here in force) photographing birds. Took the long way around exploring some and got into some good mud holes.

After our drive figuring out where to go next

Duratracs vs. Nitto's... It's more of a slaughter than a comparison...:ar15:

The pictures still don't do them justice but you can definitely see the difference. :wings:

I am currently running 31x10.5X15 Goodyear Duratracs. I researched seriously for 5 months before settling on these and I don't regret my decision at all. The only load rating they had in my size was C but it's more than adequate for me as I run my 4Runner empty 99% of the time. The tires have excellent traction in 2wd and I have yet to switch to 4wd while driving in rain and snow and my rear end doesn't slide out while making turns in heavy rain like it used to with the Michelins. The compound is softer compared to MTRs, KO's and Silent Armor but I think that’s one of the reasons why they do so well in snow. They are a bit louder compared to my old Michelin M+S tires but that was expected given the aggressive tread. If you research more you will find that people complaining about the soft sidewalls are running full size trucks on a low load rating tires. The tires also come with lifetime warranty. I have about 7K KMs on my tires and they don't look worn at all. I'll be happy if I can get 50K kms out of these tires. I don't think the tires are asymmetrical as I have them installed with the black side out. I didn’t want tires with "Wrangler" in bold white letters on my 4Runner:). Goodyear had a $60 rebate when I got mine so I didn't have to pay for installation and balancing. I ended up paying $150 a piece for them back in October.

Finally got around to uploading some before and after pics of the Duratracs (265/75/16). The before pictures were the factory Rugged Trails after 46,000 miles. So far I'm very pleased with them. Hopefully in the next month or so I'll have a chance to use them off pavement.

On the freeway they have a slight hum around the 60-65mpg range, but anything slower/faster than that is quieter. Good thing no one drives 65 in CA :D The noise is not bad by any means. After I stopped intentionally listening for it, I did not notice it... Especially with the radio on.

Here's a close-up of the tread:

Tire review

Hello all I am new here. 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport v6-auto access cab.

I bought these tires because they are work tires for work trucks. That is how Goodyear sells them.

The only mod's I have done to my truck are a Leer cap and 265-70-17 Goodyear Duratracs load range c. I hated my stock tires...horrible off road.

I am a contractor and use my Taco to pull a 6 x 12 trailer 3500lbs ish, move lumber, firewood. camp etc. My truck is my swiss army knife.

Anyway, I bought my Duratracs about 3000 miles ago. Wearing great, louder than my "car tires" but not bad at all. We had 3 feet plus of snow here in DE...sweet! Truck did amazing! Night and day difference. I only got stuck if I tried to blast a 3' deep snow bank and got high centered.
IN the mud they rock as well ..clean out nicely keep ya moving forward. Good feedback.
I drive on road 80% of time. Louder but not bad, stable yes. No complaints.
Last week I drove into 1' of standing water on the road at about 50! Accidently, I thought I was toast ...almost crapped myself! Tires cleared water very very quickly ..no lane, change no loss of control, ... I Love my Duratracs and recommend them!
