Getting new tires, need insight.

I was just going to mention the Duratracs. I bought my first set about four months ago and I love 'em! I really recommend the Duratrac tires, their sidewalls are relatively soft though, at least for me anyways (225/65/16); but i'm happy with them. Amazing traction and handle highway speeds like a regular street tire.

How soft are we talking? I am looking at the D rated so I don't want it to be as soft as my P rated Nitto's since the Duratracs are LT.

Also, are the Duratracs asymmetrical or can I mount them black side out? The white walls would look ridiculous on my truck. I know they aren't directional, but haven't heard whether they are asymmetrical like the MTR's are.

Duratracs:
After further research, and reading through a massive thread on the FJ forum, it looks like they can be mounted on the rim in either direction, and have an amazing rate of success.

I am aware that these have a softer sidewall and may not suite heavier vehicles, but for the Tacoma, FJ and 4Runner range they have nothing but great reviews. I will also be coming from P rated tires so it should be a huge improvement in strength without needing bulletproof tires. I am currently leaning more towards these than the KO's. Keep the info coming though, I won't be placing an order until early next week. :victory:

You can mount the Duratracs either way; I just had a set put on my Tacoma this past week (265/75/16). I haven't had them offroad yet, so I can't comment on their performance there. As far as on-road manners, they're hardly louder than the Rugged Trails that were on there before, and handle basically the same even at highway speeds. I think they're a great compromise for a daily driver, plus they're available in a load range C in that size which was a plus for me.

The only bad feedback I've seen on them is the claims of weak sidewalls. I've read several reviews saying they were squirrely on-road, but most of the time those reviews were from people driving duallys and 1-ton trucks. They feel fine on my double cab Tacoma.

I have an 08 4Runner with a set of 265/75 16 Duratracs in load range C. I would have preferred the load range E but got a deal on these I couldn't turn down.

I've put about 2K miles on them so far and have been very impressed. I haven't had them off-road but as far as snow they are one of the best tires I have had. General on-road use they have been good. I don't have any complaints with them.

Those that do have the Duratracs, how is the wet traction?

I've had mine now for about 1000 miles (285/75R16). As compared to my BFG/AT's, they are much better in mud. No problems with snow packed highway and no problems in rain. More stable in heavy rain than the AT's. Have had them aired down to 15 psi with no problems from sidewalls.

I seem to read that people are worried about the thin 2 ply sidewalls everywhere. But, I have yet to read of anyone anywhere that actually had a sidewall failure. Is this the same conclusion that others that have been searching have came to as well? I really like the Duratrac tire as its very light weight. The 33's I'm looking at will weigh less then my current BFG at ko 32's. Which would lead to better acceleration and mileage when tooling around town possibly. But, since I'm up sizing as well I guess it would be more of a assist.

I was worried initially, but after reading reviews for hours, the only people who complain about the sidewalls are those who put these on their over-sized trucks.

I ordered a set of Duratracs today; LT285/70/17. I'll post up my review once I get some miles on them.

How soft you ask? You can squeeze the sidewall down with your hands when you get them. (Not on the rim, just the tire itself)

Did you get the C, D, or E? Looking forward to the review.

The 285's came in a D. I think that's best for me anyways. They look great, and so far they don't ride any worse than my Nitto's. I will give a review after I gets some miles on them. :smiley_drive:
