Good to be back...questions about roof racks and tents.

Hi All,

Long time lurker, former member from about 10 years ago.

Have a 2014 JKUR on 35"s with a 4" Mopar Lift. After a recent trip I've decided to pull the trigger on a roof rack and rtt.

I'm looking at the regular sized Falcon (Click Here) and going with TF Nebo Rack (Click Here).

I'm going for as low profile as I can and it appears the 7" Falcon with the Nebo would be a good combo. My question is if the Nebo slats (Click Here) will meet the requirements of the Falcon below.

  • Crossbar rating: 140 lbs.
  • Minimum crossbar length: 40″
  • Minimum distance between bars: 30″
  • Suggested distance between bars: 36″- 42″
  • Crossbar maximum size: 4″ wide 3″ tall
  • Any shape bar will work (aero preferred)
  • This set-up will support 600 lbs. when parked
Also...if there is an equally low profile rack that costs less than the Tereflex I'm open to other options.

Good to be back!

Hey Joe! Welcome back. If you are willing to drill holes in your slats, you can generally mount almost any tent. However, the tighter profile can make mounting anything a PITA.

I don't think the Nebo is the right rack for a hard shell roof top tent. Before getting the Ursa Minor, I had the Nebo paired with a Tepui. The issues I see; there is a drop from the side rails to the slats (see attach picture), the distance between rails is 43" but the RTT is 50" wide (maybe a spacer mounted between the stat and the RTT), and the Nebo mounts to the rear 2/3 of the hard top which would leave 30"-40" of over hang (depending on how you mount it).

I think a more appropriate rack would be a Rhino Racks Pioneer platform, which is more pricy.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The Roofnest folks showed me the above rack. Seems it’ll meet my specs.

I currently have a James Baroud Evasion Evolution mounted on a Gobi Stealth rack on my 2012 JKUR. I love the tent and would highly recommend it.

If I was doing it again I would probably go with a Front Runner rack. Our relatively harsh winter climate is pretty hard on finishes and the Gobi rack has not stood up particularly well. It also creates quite a bit of drag.

My short list for tent would include James Baroud, Maggiolina and Alu-Cab. I would personally only consider hard top RTT's.
