Guide Me - JKUR for Expo Use

goofiefoot,
I wasn't trying to second guess your purchased, even though it did sound like that. I'm older and getting the unlimited mileage warranty means a lot to me. This is the last vehicle that I will ever purchase. I also don't plan any big mods to my Jeep, just bolt-ons. It's about perfect the way it is. Sounds like you got just what you wanted. Not having a payment is a big plus. This is my first vehicle payment in many, many years. Good luck with your Jeep and post pictures of your mods. As a new first time JK owner, I'm totally converted. I love them!

No worries, Sam. One of the things that attracted me to the Jeep was the ability to truly make it your own. Like LEGOs and AR-15's, you can pop pieces on and off as your usage dictates and tastes allow. Some folks want new ones, some like old ones. Some owners stay completely stock, some spend 3 times the worth of the vehicle to deck them out. Buying a Jeep, you become part of a diverse community of unique individuals. No matter how it shakes out, that's pretty cool to me. :D

I have the Teraflex Aluminum sliders. I like the weight savings over the stock Rubicon rock rails. To date it is the only product that I have substituted and actually increased my payload. They have a good step for getting in and out of the Jeep as well as lashing things to the roof rack. Another big plus is they keep smaller vehicles from denting your doors. I had a set on my 07' and put another set on my 13'. The only negative is the installation includes drilling into the side of your Jeep's sheet metal. My 13' for reference below. Congrats on the Jeep purchase!

Those are definitely on my list. The Teraflex, Rock Slide and Hanson are all very similar designs, but while Hanson has steps cut into the slider, they only offer them in steel. The weight savings on the aluminum is very attractive. I'm just worried the step might be too high for my wife. My other thought is to buy a set up actual hoop steps to somehow attach to the body or sliders and keep the Warn sliders I have. I would need to mount them in a way that they can be easily removed for off-road trips.

goofiefoot,
Don't get me started on ARs. Just bought the first black LWRCI M6IC sold to a civilian. Well, it was a few months ago. Very happy with it. Gave my LMT to my daughter and sold my Noveske.

It took my TJ falling apart underneath me to get me into a new JK. Yes, I agree, they are like Legos. I like seeing what everyone does with theirs. There are some great Jeeps out there. Cheers!

Body Armor Rockstep

Does anyone have any opinions on this as a slider option? They are relatively new, so there's not a ton of info out there. The step heights look just about right for my wife's use. I spoke with a guy at Body Armor yesterday, and he told me they mount in the same basic location as the Rubicon rails, that they are stout enough to lift the vehicle with a Hi-Lift, and weight about 47lbs each. I think they look pretty good, and the price is really nice. Thoughts?

Those by body armor look nice. I prefer the purejeep style. They have bottom protection side stand off and upper body protection. plus they seem to hug the body lines.

I've came to the same conclusion about steps- most rock rails/rocker guards that have something on them that can be used as a step are high enough that they aren't the best form of a step for short people.

Since my Jeep isn't going to see much trail use, it's more of a back country exploring rig (dirt roads, etc) I don't really need major rocker panel protection, and would like a step. I'm actually thinking of going backwards from what most people would do: I am considering a set of steps off a Sahara model. The dealer has them as in the parts department for about $350.00

I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds - a low-enough step with a bit of protection. My wife and I have had a couple of sessions now, with her standing next to the Jeep, and me with a piece of 1x4 held at various heights to get an optimal step height for her. I'm sure the neighbors are getting a laugh from it. The step height of the Teraflex and Rock Slide are simply too high for her. Since the main level of the Body Armor sliders are slightly lower than the vertical body panel, and the cut-out steps are lower than that, I think this might work. I was just hoping to find someone who's actually used them, or even seen them in person.

I do, however, need to figure out a better solution for rock sliders. The Jeep came with Warn sliders, which look nice and beefy, but are so close to the body, they are useless as a step. No problem for me, but my 5'2" wife begs to differ. I've been looking at all the options, and I'm completely overwhelmed by all the choices. I want something I can rely on for rocker protection and possible for use as a Hi-Lift jacking point, but has to be mounted low enough and wide enough so she isn't having to high-kick her way into the Jeep. My leanings right now, brand-wise, are Hanson, Rock Slide Engineering, Hy-Line, Teraflex, and Warrior. Basically, I need a step at or below the body line below the doors, and at least 3-4" wide.

For the step up issue, consider these:

Might work for your current warn sliders, looks as though it will.
