Take it for a test drive while paying attention to your feet on the gas and brake. The brake pedal is extremely close to the gas, and if you have Sz 12 sneakers like me you can get them caught under the brake during a panic stop.
I have size 14s but was wearing my Lowa desert boots on the test-drive; they're fairly narrow compared to my other boots. I didn't have a problem but my other car is a MINI right now...

I do appreciate all the ideas. Unfortunately I can't fit another vehicle anywhere --- believe me, there would be a Mog out there already if I could. Bob infected me with the Mog virus and I'm still sick with it.
But that wouldn't fit practical life. Yet.

So whatever I do, it has to be the DD, wheeler, & tow pig.

I asked Del to chime in because he's the only real person that I knew that had one for a while and actually had it on dirt. The ones around here get spinners and limo tint.

I still have a week to think about it.

A Hummer? Really?

< disappointed face>

When was the last time you pulled a trailer 5 or 6 thousand miles on a roadtrip?
It gets pretty tedious if you can't go faster than 62 mph, even on the flat sections of interstate....

I gotta do something.

will a 4.0 engine fit in there? there's nothing wrong with 4.6 stroker version of that mill.......easliy pull like a V8. if you like your Jeep and 2K is all you plan on towing a blower should fit the bill too. problem is that V6 motor has a pretty lousy powerband.

on a side note......why is "everyone" all gung ho to swapping in these super expensive make believe hemis.......because AEV did it?

here's a pretty darn good platform for all your needs:

Think of it as practice for the 'mog:) You'ld be extatic going 62 mph with it!! It's all perspective...

If ya want a hummer, buy a hummer, but there are MANY other options to choose from.

Well, I obviously don't want a Hummer; thus this thread.
Let's hear the other ideas.
My best two internal debates are for the supercharger kit from RIPPmods or the Power Wagon.
Supercharging the Jeep lets me keep the vehicle that I love, am comfortable in, know, and have modded. It will effectively void every remaining warranty though and it's got 79,000 miles on it. Not that I mistrust it, but things do age and I'm not as physically capable as I used to be...
The Power Wagon has oodles of space, oooodles of power, comes stock on 33s with 4.56 gears and a winch. Every creature comfort conceivable, new warranty.

There are a couple of vehicles that I always loved from afar. Mustangs, Minis, a blown '68 Rover 3500, Jeeps, & Power Wagons (thank you Simon and Simon).

What about a V8 Ranger? Oh, wait - that's what I'm going to do. :sombrero:

It sounds to me like you really, really, really/I] want the PW - but are having a hard time justifying it.

If you Hemi or supercharge your Jeep, you will never recoup your investment. If you buy a PW, you can recoup some of your investment. (Not that you are planning sell either...)

Is the PW too large for the areas you like to off-road? How do you feel about pinstripes? (A wider vehicle will acquire more stripping than a narrow vehicle.)

One more thing - Hummer, as a company, is no more. Parts will run out. (I know, GM chassis, etc. - but parts will run out.)

Mirtes just called and said the PW word... ...in a good way...

I'm still giving it a think for at least a week.
But what a long week it will be.

Power wagon for sure man...

Pretty much any full size pickup, or SUV.

Or a nice Yota. I would trade both of my Jeeps for a similar yota like I had in a heartbeat. I know you arent a yota fan, but dont discount them totally. I can see you in a nicely equipt ( :) ) 80 or 100series/lexus. Or even a Tundra/Tacoma. Have you driven a new body style Tacoma? They are huge inside...

If you want to keep the JK, the only viable option is a motor transplant of your choice, or start tuning the crap out of it with a Supercharger/Turbo/Something. If you get too crazy, then you loose the DD reliability. Go with a more stock vehicle with more OEM power (ie Power Wagon, Ford, etc etc). Jeep dropped the ball with the JK powerplant, thats all that can be said.

Good thing you are forgetting about the H3. I had one as a rental and the interior space felt claustrophobic to me, and I'm not tall like Bill, just of average height.

But what a long week it will be.

I suspect you've already made your decision in your brain and just need to confirm it in your heart. What's not to like, a complete package right from the factory with all the goodies pre installed. A good deal on a used PW would be the only thing to pull me away from my current Tundra. As long as gas mileage wasn't the final decider.

the parting anxiety is already tugging at me over the Jeep ---- this won't/wouldn't be a light decision.

My Jeep has a become a very unique extension of me; you can't mistake the thing when you see it and it suits me.
Just wish it had some nutz.

I have to say that I too really do like the Power Wagon a lot. Cab is spacious, driving position outstanding, comfort great for being a HD truck. I would consider one for me, IF it would be available with a diesel. My whatever vehicle I have being my daily driver - same situation you are in, Bill - I don't know if I and my ecological conscience could live with the fuel mileage of a PW. It's not just a money question, but do I really need the Exxon Valdez to move my lonely "lower back" to work or to the airport ...

The best I do in the Jeep realisticly is the high 15s for mpg. That tanks when I'm offroad or pulling the trailer.
I don't think the PW would notice the trailer...
