Hackster's crew cab first gen cummins

Wow, thanks for all the encouragement guys!!

No plans on building another one at this time, they are pretty labor intensinve. The next one I build will get a standard bed on it to keep it looking more stock, still with some descent tires, no beadlocks and nice bumpers and sliders. More low lift tow rig than outdoor exploring wheeler like this one. Starting a new build soon. Single

Turbo is actually an HE341 but pretty much the same thing from the outside. Boosts great and lowerd the smoke levels a ton. The 37's are growing on me at this point, the gearing is about perfect as far as I am concerned with the 3.54's and 37's, I dont know quite how but I know that its great to drive. Got a few hundred miles on it again this weekend and its running and driving great except for the rough ride and the tire rubbing the steering at full lock right.

Also caved in the drives rocker panel up in the snow a couple weeks ago, not too happy with myself for that piece of work but the truck works great up in the hills. Needs a coupole of lockers but it gets around nicely in the snow, way better than any of us thought it would for having a huge wheelbase.

Interior is well, its used now. I need to clean all my crap out of it and get it cleaned up for some photos.

Got the interior cleaned up today and going to try and repair the rocker panel this afternoon. I really need a center console as well so that might happen this weekend.

Some interior shots...

So, nothing too exciting to report. Truck has a couple thousand miles on it and is working great. I was finally able to end a two month battle with the DMV and OSP yesterday. The OSP removed all the vin numbers from the truck and the state attached an assembled vin number to the frame of the truck. While this was not optimal as I really wanted to have the stock 80 vin number on the door jamb but it did title the truck as a 1993 cummins crew cab four wheel drive with a 8500 gvw. It does not have to go through DEQ this way and is pretty cool that it is a 1993 crew cab.

Getting ready for Moab for easter Jeep Safari this March and decided that my old faithful buggy needed a revamp. Not really related to this thread but it has even more tan content!!

This is what I tow around with the dodge, tube chassis from the ground up has been wheeled pretty hard and needed a little maintenance. I have always wanted to redo the rear tube to give me some storage space and make it a little longer and adjust the shape of the roof at the a pillars.

Did this to it the same night....

Cut up the frontend last night.... cut off the front bumper and steering this week and adding in some additional up travel for the rougher roads.

Anyways, back to the build at hand.

I had a chance to stop by and take a look at Sean's projects last weekend - including the buggy and Volvo's - let me say they are very well done!!! Sean's quite the fabricator and has a great eye for projects.

The crew cab is a CLEAN well executed truck!!! Gotta be the only 1993 dodge crewcab running around!

Sean, thanks again for the invite and the look at the Hutchinsons - much appreciated!

Hey Brian welcome to the site. I also love the look of the buggy. That machine looks like it can take some serious punishment. I like all the pics that are being posted when it shows the cool fabrication being done. Cheers, Chilli....:)

Been tying up all the loose ends lately, built a swing away spare tire carrier a few weekends back and loaded up a ****ty 37 on it. I added a little more tube to the rear of the bed to support the top of the tire after I shot these photos too, but you get the idea.

I had lots of ideas and dont know if I am sold on the look but it is very functional for me, I can still use the floor of the bed to put stuff flat on it, I can open and close the tailgate and get up into the bed and it will be great for our trip to Alaska this summer being able to get it out of the way to get stuff from the bed.

Also been dealing with the little stuff, installed the correct white backup lights and wired in. Switch in tranny is bad though so I need to get that replaced sometime.

Replaced the master cylinder Monday night and bled the brakes. The rears still lock up when you first take off but not going to worry about that much before I head to Moab.

Replaced all the badly cracked factory couplers on the pressure piping with a kit from source last week.

Still battling with some hesitation on the top end, thinking it might be a combination of bad fuel or water in the fuel and a lift pump issue. So I picked up a low pressure piston lift pump from Cummins last week and plan on getting that on tonight.

One question for you first gen guys....When do I need to think about an upgrade to the injection pump? Just curious if I am anywhere near there with my setup.

75 or 100hp injectors (they were in it when I bought it and I cannot remember which ones they are)
Denny T stage two pin
Intake
HE341 running 40lbs + boost
Low pressure piston lift pump

I am getting ready to head to Moab towing the buggy for the first real long haul and want to make sure everything is safe for the long haul. Anything I should be doing to make this reliable other than what I have going on?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

I was in jury duty all day and read this whole thread, let the time pass well.

I love the build!!!

We need to see a pic of that first gen towing the buggy ;)

I really like the fridge between the seats idea, that's what I wanted to do as well.

The Volvo's looked killer!

Great work man, I just finished up my Petersen's 4wheel & off road and saw your rig was the feature article. It took me a minute to figure out why it looked so familiar. Nicely done!
