Tonight I passed the Technician test, so I took the General test and passed that too. :victory:They asked if I wanted to take the Extra, but I said I had not studied. I came home and took a practice Extra test online and got a 66%, so I guess I wasn't ready, but hmm, a little studying, and I won't have to memorize such a long callsign!

Now to buy a radio.

James, that is awesome. Congratulations!!
If you're scoring that well on the Extra practice tests, I would encourage you to continue, the Extra bandwidth is worth it. If you plan on doing any DX chasing it's nearly mandatory.
Go for it!!
BTW, if you're not busy on Saturday evening, tune into 7190 @ 6:30 Pacific A few wheelers are forming a loose net to keep tabs on each other during outings. Since you can......stop by.

Thanks all. I think if I were an electrical engineer instead of a mechanical engineer, I would have passed the Extra. As it was, stuff I know about vibration analysis helped me a lot.

I am going around to local hams and checking out their gear to see what I like. I just learned about one down the street from me. Funny how I never noticed his antenna tower in his yard before, and now I see it every time I drive by.

Ha, the exact same thing happened to me after I passed my exam. For some reason I never noticed that the guy across the street had a large tower with a big 3 element yagi on top. Maybe that's because I didn't even know what a yagi was? Now every time I look out my window there it is.

If you've got a grip on mathematics (nothing too tough) and some retention skills for the legal stuff you'll get it.
