Hemi Ram 1500

Hey all,

I sold my Jeep Rubicon and bought a Ram 1500. I sincerely miss my Jeep, but I wasn't doing enough hard core off-roading to justify the Rubicon price tag so I sold it and bought a Ram 1500. The Ram seemed a bit more practical for camping trips since we always take people and their gear with us. I will say that this truck's handling, braking, power, and interior ergonomics are significantly better than my Jeeps, but it doesn't feel as robust off-road. It seriously rides like a Mercedes at 80mph on the freeway.

I don't know if I have any plans for building this truck. Gas is like $4.00 a gallon in California so I may forgo the lift and big tires and just focus on taking it on camping trips. Let me know what modifications yall have had success with without breaking the pocket book. Also here is a picture of my old Jeep. I don't want to get as much money in this vehicle as I had in that one. I would prefer to spend my money on experiences.

Looks like a great start. I am in the same boat, with a 2009 Ram 5.7L 1500. Not too much done to mine either, just picked it up Monday and I have been looking for recommendations. Congrats on the purchase. Your old Jeep looks great too!

I posted a thread asking for recommendations on what products are good for our trucks. Got some good info on what is available. Have you found any other forums dedicated to these trucks? I'm looking for the popular ones that have more vehicle specific content.

My '14 Ram isnt really setup for "Overlanding" per se....but it could do the job easily. I run Bilstein 5100's all around with the front set at the 2.1 setting. It levels the truck and gives a great ride. I have also installed Airbags in the rear as I tow all Summer. I have the Hemi w/ the 6 speed and the 3.55 rear end. All I can say is that I LOVE this truck. 51,000 miles and it has been flawless and is the best riding truck I've ever owned. I went and test drove an F150 recently and couldnt believe how bumpy the ride was compared to the Ram. Hard to go back to leaf's after you've been on coils for awhile.

Ramforumz is a great site dedicated entirely to the Ram trucks....a lot of info.

I have a 2013 with hemi and Rambox. I custom fit a contractor shell so I can open the shell and the Ramboxes. Also installed a bed slide and dual batteries with National Luna charge controller.
This is one of the best family rigs I’ve owned.

Next will be a leveling kit and I’m due for tires soon as well. 521C68BA-ED20-45B4-801F-29F352F64002.png521C68BA-ED20-45B4-801F-29F352F64002.png521C68BA-ED20-45B4-801F-29F352F64002.png

I have pretty much the same base, right down to the engine, trans, and diff's being 3.55's. I just haven't done a lift, or even rear level at all yet. Just stuck mid-project so far. I'd love to see how you have your's setup.

Ramforum is who I use, I do goto "The Z" for some tech stuff now and again.

@cody93225 All I've done was Line-X, a BakFlip 2 cover, and black satin vinyl wrap the center console latch so the chrome would stop reflecting the sun so bad. It's been in and out of Oregon as well as the Sierra's between Downieville and Mammoth Lakes camping, fishing, etc with zero issues. If I do go ahead and do Bilsteins like most do it'll be setup with them at 2.1 and likely switching out the Goodyears for BFG TA-KO's. Bear in mind the 4th Gen Rams upper control arms with the press in ball joints tend to end up popping the balljoints at the outside edge when lifted even a little. There are a couple of companies out there (Zone being one) that offer a far superior upper control arm setup that resolves the issue.

Yeah, I've gone thru the same--I've modified my Ram and the 5.7L HEMI/w mods and the 8spd auto is the best truck I've ever had, but-

After almost two years I missed my jeep so much I had to order the new JL -this RAM just won't do what a jeep can and the jeep just won't do what the RAM can, so why not both !
The jeep is DUE SOON !

Whatever
