Hi-Lift Off Road Kit ORK

Great thread!
Thanks for the jackmate reminder, been considering one for some time now. Any priceless experiences with it to justify the investment? I have a 10' 3/8" chain and a few beefy nylon straps, standard hi lift, shackles, 1 snatch block and a winch in front. Think I should spend $40 on something else first? Or put it in the maxtrax fund?
Seems more useful than the standard base, though I wish they sold that first responder base seperately.

I've employed this method more than once on my old XJ in northern MN. Nice work.

Thanks for sharing.

I have had to perform this method a couple of times. I agree with most comments posted on this thread. A friend of mine has always said, "before you do anything, brew a cup of tea." This pulls you away for a short period, help to calm the nerves and gets you thinking. This goes along with what Frenchie posted, "take your time and make a plan." Most injuries and safety issues arise when people rush into something and do not think about what their doing. Remember, because it worked in one situation doesn't mean it will work in another. Everytime you do something like this you are adding to your knowledge base.

Thanks again for sharing!

I think a lot of people write off the hilift jack as an effective winching tool because it is slow. In a standard recovery situation "slow" may not be such a bad thing. Has anyone out there used a snatch block in combination with a hilift? I would be interested in seeing a picture...

Do you use the snatch block with your synthetic winch extension?

Are there any good threads on using a winch to get out of the same situation without damaging the winch line or under carriage of the vehicle?

I agree with "good job using what you had"!

Bet you wish you had another set of tire chains and had chained up the rear initially too. (I'm guessing you wouldn't have slid or slid as far with them on all fours.
-
Me, I tend to put the chains on after I'm already stuck. Lazy tendancy... not proud of it!

(P.S. My last un-stuck, "using what I had", involved a 2500lb ATV winch [on the ATV], some chain, and the factory bottle jack. It wasn't pretty or easy getting my F-250 out of a high-centered-in-a-puddle-on-large-chunk-of-ice situation.)

Thanks for sharing. Good work.

Early on someone made mention of chainsaw. Really? How lazy are we? Cut down a tree to save using your brain and a little elbow grease. Unless you are on your own property, cutting down a tree should be a last and final option...and honestly not even really an option.
