Hitch mounted tire carrier. Yay or nay?

I found this one too. I love that you can get it to lower to the side instead of straight back. Cheaper too, but no hitch built into this one.

Very clever but I wonder if one of these manufacturers could come up with some kind of system using a spring or a gas strut to assist in lifting the tire? When I'm on my trips, I'm in and out of the tailgate several times a day and just the thought of having to heft a 75+ lb spare tire that often makes my back hurt!

I'm a big fan of the Tiregate for just that reason. Yes, it's heavy but you should only have to lift it when you are first putting it on or when you are removing it.

TireGate

I have had the Tire Gate Hitch Gate model mounted on an Excursion for approximately 3 years with decent success.
Pros:
Access my back glass w/out opening tire gate
Opens up a lot of internal space for SUV or Truck
Can accommodate up to a Class IV Hitch rating depending on vehicle (does raise the hitch mount point up about 2")

Cons:
I have had problems with the wedge lock system not keeping it aligned properly. After a few months of driving it tends to lean to the tire side.
The pin system needs occasional maintenance or it will become difficult to remove.

Overall, I am pleased with the system. Every time I want to get rid of it I am reminded how necessary it has become.

I say YAY. Click on my link below;
