Hmmmmm - I used to trail in that area about twenty years ago. At that time I didn't know that you could drive down into the Rincon. There were no trails there on the topos. I might have to do that trek in the future...Nice write up.

The future of the trail is in question, the NPS says the road is NOT open to the lake via motorized access. However the county claims it is as the road predated Lake Powell, and therefore predated the NPS. The road was originally built to access mines/dredges in the lower canyon, now underwater. I would highly recommend you check with both the county and the NPS before going on the trail, however as stated it is not marked closed.

Re: Topos: It is on topos, old ones, and some new ones. I know its on my 1:24k maps from the 1960's-70's era. Though newer maps don't show it at all.

Recently the NPS reviewed their motorized travel plan, many users submitted the Rincon Trail to be officially added to their plan (as it enters the park at the lake's edge??). I'm not holding my breath. Really I'm glad I was able to run it when I did, when all the county vs. fed battles are over here in Utah... I think alot of high notoriety trails are going to be gone forever, the county's are in some cases just prolonging the closure.

Update: According to a crew that ran the trail a week or so ago... the washout is getting progressively worse to the point it won't be passable in a couple more rain storms. :( The BLM is looking into a solution and its very likely an existing re-route will be dubbed official. Keep that in mind if you plan to run this trail in the near future :D
