How we spent our T-day holiday

Initially Debbie and I were going to go down to Santa Barbara to spend Thanksgiving with relatives. Part of this plan was I was going to go down early and pick up my trailer then I was going to head over to Santa Barbara and then pick Debbie up in a couple of days at Burbank airport. Well that didn't work out like we planned so we decided to take a shakedown cruise for the new trailer and head to Death Valley for the weekend. Well that didn't work out either as the weather predictions for the time we would be away was for colder and windy conditions and Debbie didn't want to camp, besides most of the campgrounds in Death Valley were already full. So we just decided on a road trip to Death Valley and rough it in hotels and eat out the entire time.

Funny how things work out. :)

Well despite the fact we didn't have the trailer and didn't camp we did have a good time. We spent 3 nights in Amargosa Valley (or Scranton or Stateline depending on which map you use) at the Longstreet "destination" resort. We spent another night in Bishop on the way home.

We left Carson City and drove down 95A to 95 then down 373 at Leeland or Lathrop Wells or Amargosa Valley, depending on which map you use, that took us right to the Longstreet Casino. From there we could hit 3 of the east side Death Valley entrances with relative ease.

But enough of the dissertation let's go right for the pictures. We got both video and stills as Debbie shot mostly video while I shot mostly stills. I'll work on a video shortly as the one from Titus canyon was a lot of fun and I almost made Debbie motion sick from the run down the last tight twisty section of the canyon. Probably not the recommended way to see the last part of the canyon but is sure was fun. :D

Oh and yes it was windy as the cold air front moved in then out. Still in Death Valley it was a chilly 65 the first day and the overnight was in the 30's. So I guess the camping may not have been as much fun. The last day however was awesome sunny and warm at 75 with no wind.

The price of gas in Furnace Creek was a little high but it beats no gas at all, as was the case in Stovepipe Wells. Which was disappointing as I counted on that to head up to Lone Pine on the way out. We coasted in on fumes in Panamint Valley were I got to pay even more for gas.

The next day we went down to the town of Shoshone which was a nice little town and had a few shops/mueseums/gift stores along with a gas station. The gas station mini mart was formerly owned by a California Senator, Charlie Brown.

We ran across this couple as they were pulled over by the CHP on the way to Panamint Valley. They stopped to get refreshements at the little mini mart so we started talking with them. It appears as though the woman who offers Xango, won this little gem at their convention in Las Vegas. Sure beats a pink Cadillac from Mary Kay! Well like I said they had just won this sitting as is and had left Las Vegas with no tags, which is why they got pulled over. It may not be our cup of tea but still I don't think I'd turn it down if someone offered me one of these for free. ;)

Nice photos and details.

I was in DV the weekend before Thanksgiving. I also stopped in Shoshone, Stovepipe Wells and Panamint Springs. The prices of gas were abysmal. They really stick it to ya when you're way out in BFE.

Still, it beats being at work -

I'm so jealous! I was supposed to camp while I was home on leave, but went to a funeral and then was DD for girlfriends drunk parents at a wine tasting party. That place looks beautiful! I will HAVE to remember to bring lots of gas from cheaper places if/when I go
