How would you outfit this custom LJ?

What would be cool would be to make a topper to fit on the bed of a Brute kit.

I think one could be easily made from these same molds... not sure what type of windows to put in though, just threw these big windows on for the drawing...

Hi Jeff,
As always, outstanding project superbly executed.

A couple of thoughts, if you could find a Con Fer porthole rack the full length of the top I think it would set it off perfectly and would be right in line with the expo look and they are very stout. Sadly Con Fer is no more so new is not likely but they did make a lot of racks from the early 60s until they closed a year or two ago. I have one but it's not the right size for your jeep.

As mentioned previously, a drawer system in the back is a great addition unless you are going to use the back seat.

Since you don't like the idea of a tent up top and are to long to sleep inside, how about a tent/cabana that attaches to the rear of the top and forms a large room out in back? you can access the rear of the jeep without going out into rain, wind or dark of night that way.

Dual batteries are a good addition for an expo rig, I'm going to get there eventually for my 8 but haven't yet.

I wouldn't mount the spare to the hood but you will need some sort of mount, the aftermarket ofers tons of options for that though and I think it makes sense to buy rather than build unless you can't find what you want premade.

Any thoughts on a similar topper for a scrambler? I know you don't have one anymore but there might be some interest.

glad to see you here Jeff! I'm looking forward to watching this develop like I do all your projects

Hi Terry, nice to hear from you and thanks for the kind words.

I'm not familiar with that rack but I'll see if I can find some information about it.

Yes, I've designed the top so that the same mold masters can be used to make a Scrambler-length top.

Here's a photo/drawing composite of the top on my old Scrambler:

I've also been toying with the idea of an "Alpine" roof, to provide even more room inside, here's a rough idea of what it might look like:

SafariScramblerAlpine.jpg

I haven't settled on exactly the right shape for the Alpine roof yet, but I'll keep playing with concept drawings and if I come up with a design I really like I may make a mold for it. That mold would be able to be used to make a raised roof for either the Scrambler or the LJ. I don't think it makes sense to make the Alpine roof for the TJ, I think it would be out of proportion - the hardtop would be too tall for the length of the Jeep.

glad to see you here Jeff! I'm looking forward to watching this develop like I do all your projects
Thank you.

Makin' Beer.
The alpine roof on the scrambler is the icing on the cake! If you could rig that up with a back seat in there and then maybe a skylight you could almost do guided ecotourism drives with it.

Here are a few shots of the (still unfinished) interior. There will be a headliner covering up the interior ribs, etc...
