Huntsonora’s 2006 DC Toyota Tundra

Just picked up this gem yesterday. Traded in a 2018 F-150 to get back into a 1st gen. This is my third one and they are the most durable, reliable trucks I’ve owned. One of the old ones I had is now owned by a rancher in NM has 320k on it and they’re all rough miles. The dash doesn’t even rattle. Still tight. I guide and outfit hunts and sell farms and ranches for a living and I absolutely trust these 1st gens when I’m in the middle of nowhere.

This truck is a 2 owner but the first owner only had it a short time. Great service records on carfax and only 134k on it

Im leaning towards an Old Man Emu suspension, rear leaf pack and 255’s. Thinking about new UCA’s this go round unless I’m told the Bilstein 6112/5160 combo or Icon is a better option. I’ve never been in a truck with those setups

I loved my F150 but was able to trade it in and get significantly more for it than I paid for it exactly a year ago. I put 63,000 miles on it in a year and got 4K more for it in trade. Got $31k in trade for the F150 with 90k on it and I only paid $26.5k a year ago.

Made sense to cut it loose and get back into a truck I love and trust. It’s not that I didn’t trust the ecoboost but if I’m on a ranch I lease in Sonora Mexico hunting and a turbo goes out it could be a major pain in the ass

Here are pics of the new tundra

This is my last 06 that has 320k on it now. I bought it with 40k on it, sold it with 250k on it and it’s been a hell of a truck. The inspiration for me wanting to get back in to a first gen

Wondering if Brute Force Fab is still making their rear bumpers? Is the Archive Garage rear leaf pack the same as the Deaver rear leaf pack? Do I need longer shocks in the rear of I go with a replacement leaf pack? Once I get the rear ended figured out I’ll start placing orders. This needs to be ready for hunting season ASAP

Medium duty Shackleford leaf springs from Archive Garage have been ordered. Just need to piece together the rest of the suspension

Brute Force Fab is making all of their bumpers and options for the 1st gen Tundra. The website doesn't have everything they do. Just call and talk to Billy and let him know what you want. Be prepared to wait for a while because they are very busy.

I don't know exactly how much more droop the AG leaf packs provide. Longer shocks are always a good thing though.

Bit of a dilemma. I was going to order the Old Man Emu suspension today and can’t find any anywhere and the earliest they say they might get them in is late August and my hunting season starts in mid August. Not going to be optimal. I can possibly wait if I have to but I may need to go a different direction

I can find King coilovers, Icons and possibly bilstein 6112’s but don’t know the first thing about them other than I’ll spend about double over the OME setup. I do like the adjustability of them but don’t know how they compare to each other

Any help is appreciated

I wouldn't hesitate to run either the kings or Icons then. I am not familiar with the 6112s but I ran 5100s for a while and they were a huge improvement over stock with daystar spacers that I originally had on the truck.

I am currently running donahoe racing coilovers which is what Icon was before it became Icon. They are reasonably easy to rebuild and have mostly done what I expected. Parts are available and not too expensive.

The difference between spacers and 5100s was bigger than my current coilovers and the 5100s though. I'm happy with the DR coilovers but I picked them up in need of a rebuild for $150 and spent $150 in seals and shafts to rebuild them so my cost was nowhere near new price.

With aftermarket UCA's you should consider getting coilovers with extended droop. Icon for sure makes some (I have them) and I believe King does too. It gives the wheel more down travel, which makes for a much better ride and off road capability.

My Icon's do the trick, but sometimes I do wish I had King's. The Icon's are digressive valve and a little stiff. King's are progressive and from what I hear give a better ride.

If I had my choice I would do King's with extended droop, and adjustable clickers on external reservoirs. It's super nice to be able to change the dampening on the fly to match whatever you are doing at the time. Pricey though, which is why I haven't gotten them.

Thinking about buying this topper. Not the same color but I’m not too worried about it. anybody have experience with the unicover pro series? Thanks

Also, Old Man Emu suspension, sway bar extensions, archive garage rear leaf packs and SPC UCA’s are in. I’ll get that on next week

Suspension is done and I went with 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx tires.

Driven it 60 miles all on the highway so far and the ride is far greater than stock. Headed to a ranch tomorrow and will report back but I’m assuming I’ll like it as I have every vehicle I’ve put Old Man Emsuspensions on.

The rake is significant, I’m hoping these Archive Garage HD leaf packs settle a little as I’m driving over rough ranch roads. Anybody have these and know if and how much they’ll settle?
