your car starting every 30 minutes wouldn't annoy the hell out of you? it would probably annoy the hell out of anyone around you at least, i hope you don't plan on camping in campgrounds or near people

Lol
Few yrs ago some dope in a 30ft RV ran his ****ty genset all day and half the night. 5am that morning kid you not. 30 kids 12yrs to 2yrs were having an epic base ball game home plate 3ft from his front bumper! There must have been 60 parents sitting in a camp chair grand stand cheering.
The look on his face as he stumbled out in his boxers was priceless!!! Effing awesome. About 85% of the camp ground was booked up by sailors participating in a big lake regatta.

That guy pulled out and left so fast he left his high end camp chairs still sporting store tags!!
At the awards gathering we auctioned off the chairs. They went for over $1000! The money was used to purchase another club boat for the Jr Sailors.. ;-)

Never under estimate who you might be sharing a campground with. LOL

I never do; though there's a big difference in decibels between a hybrid car starting and a generator ;)

I understand that, but even a quiet car starting constantly would annoy the hell out of me

I sleep with headphones on with white-noise so I wouldn't notice. I mainly do urban stealth camping in industrial/commercial areas so I think I would like it constantly starting so meddlers would think I'm awake in there. Outside cities I'm always faraway from others so I won't be a nuisance.

I would worry about carbon monoxide fumes as you are sleeping in the back. The vehicle wasn't designed for sleeping in so running the engine while the vehicle is stationary could cause CO to enter the cabin area. I would also check to make sure the engine will kick on to keep the batteries charged and for how long.

On an old truck this may be a valid concern. But a modern Hybrid, with ULEV ratings produce next to no CO. I've ran my ULEV suv for nearly 20 minutes in a fully enclosed garage, with CO monitor 5 feet from the tailpipe, not a single beep. A lawn mower sets it off in minutes.

As recent as 5 years ago, many semi truckers would idle all night in hot or cold weather, and a Cummin ISX produces magnitudes higher CO than a Highlander!
