I found and purchased this trailer a few blocks from my house. There is a great story about the owners, I will try to compose later. We sat for hours with the owners listening to some great stories.

The trailer is from South Africa. there is no name on the trailer, it is registered here as a Vento. The owners were from Johannesburg and had this shipped over here.

So who made this, the decal is from an off road supplier but cannot find any web links (probably pre Internet). Any info would be great.

I bet Martyn would know

Wow, that is a sweet find. Well done. What is the canvas on top..a Tent? Is trailer body just open storage or are there other built in features?:wings:

Whats inside? Or...is it just big open storage? It kinda reminds me of a casket... :shakin:

Lol, my friend said it looks like a giant BBQ. It is open inside, the top opens and the back opens. There are bars running alond the inside of the trailer for attachment points for securing the load.

Under the blue tarp is an acient Eezi-awn tent (not much left of it). The people we got it from said they had slept inside the metal container part a couple times in fear of lions nearby.

I don't try to find this stuff. It found me, I was happy with my tent trailer.

Now If I could mount the tent trailer body on top of this thing...................

Well Guys I have a little information for you on this trailer. It was probably made by Venter http://www.ventertrailers.co.za/index.htm They are the biggest manufacturer of trailers in South Africa. They make everything from small cargo trailers to 4X4 trailers.

Looking at the South African license plate it was originally registered in the Transvaal, the Transvaal became Gauteng after the "struggle". This area includes Johannesburg and Pretoria.

I've never seen this model but it looks to be something made in the 80's. During the 80's you could import a vehicle or trailer as a personal possession and do your own processing to have the DOT certify it for use in the USA. Now all of that has to be done by a registered importer.

The decal on the axle may be that of the axle manufacturer or something as simple as the decal of the company who made the end cap.

Hey Mike
Send these Venter folks a few picts. One to verify it was theirs and two maybe they have some old brochures.... picts.... info.
Now get out and paint it...... dark blue... maybe the racks black..... match'n wheels...... throw the roof top on the rack.....
Then I'll swing by to borrow it from time to time...... :luxhello:

Oh your still a Ba&tu?d !!! A lucky one.....
