Con'Grats on passing your test!

Keep an eye on the FCC website. It won't be long before they issue your call.

Congrats on getting your ticket.

IMO - stick with Yaesu, ICOM or Kenwood.

If you want to start with a HT, go with a 2M like the Yaesu FT-270R

http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/5270.html

For vehicle use it has great audio, and it's easy to hook up a hand set and mag mount antenna for longer range comms.

You'll probably end up with a hard mounted radio like a FT-7900R at some point for more versatility, and the HT makes a great loaner or hiking companion.

Thanks guys! It's proving really tough to decide on a radio. I want the range of a mobile with a big through-the-roof antenna like my CB setup, but the versatility and portability of an HT (I have two cars). I'll probably end up with both.

Keep the suggestions coming, I'm all ears.
