Ignition Module vs. Igniter

I've been having intermittent issues with our Subaru and I took it in today so the shop could do a full read out on the vehicle electrics and codes.

I had been getting codes for misfire on 1 and 3, they got misfires on 1 and 4.

I did most of the basics, spark plugs, HT leads, coil block, switching injectors, ERG valve. The shop said they felt that the "igniter" was starting to fail, and this was causing the problems.

When I asked further they said; they could not test my igniter, and replacing it was no guarantee the problems would go away.

As a new igniter cost $300.00 I suggested I just find on at a junk yard and see if the issues disappears. They thought that was a good idea.

When I went to the shop to pick up the vehicle I asked the service manager to show me where the igniter was located and he pointed it out in the middle of the fire wall.

The unit he pointed out is what I have seen referred to as the Ignition Module.

Are they the same thing?

yes. they are the same thing by a different name.

Thank you for confirming that.

I pick up a used one from a wreckers yard today for $35.00, hopefully it will solve the problem.
