We get back to civilization and I give the Jeep a quick wash..

Then we pass the ubiquitous deputy-parked-by-the-roadside...

He's made of real cop stuff, assuming, of course, that real cop stuff is also what they make department store mannequins out of... :sombrero:

The day winds down in camp.. Colin checks out the horses...

Who says vice-grips aren't just for stuff that's not dinner? :chef:

Again, we had a great day and got to see and experience amazing sights, sounds and smells of the desert..

Day 9 Part 1

We move out of the cabin, and while I'm packing/loading/stuffing the Jeep the rest of the crew hangs with the horses. Peace and quiet at last. :costumed-smiley-007

We've decided to vacate the premises a day early because of a persistent raw sewage odor every night. We've also seen plenty here and want to be certain we have time to explore in Colorado on the way home. Even though we weren't expecting to recieve one, they gave us a full refund for the night we'd already paid for but weren't going to be staying. I suspect they've had to do this before for the same reason, even though they swore they'd never gotten any complaints prior to ours (it seemed everybody we spoke with had been talking about it since we arrived, at the showers, in the laundry room and out by the fire pits). Anyway, they were cool about it and we didn't have to eat a night's lodging to move on...

Oh yeah, we'd decided (after talking with the bikers yesterday at Toroweep) to head over to Escalante and take The Burr Trail over to Bullfrog and catch the ferry to ???...

So we were back-tracking a bit, and it was lovely...

It's so clean this morning!

Tracy laughed that we pull off at a scenic overlook that's dominated by utility poles, so naturally I take a picture of them, and naturally I post it here...

The scenery changes around every turn. The washes are lush and green..

Anywhere there is water, there is life..

I also like the way the shadows drape themselves across the landscape. Kind of a nightmare from an exposure perspective, but really nice to see in person..

Finally, I've got to my Mom's house so I'm able to see this whole thread. Up until now it's just been a few scattered photos to spike my interest as my dial-up connection goes into fits trying to upload all the pics. Wish I could get some broadband here.

What a great trip report and photo essay of your family's travels. You're photos of the sights, landscapes and happy family togetherness has my wife thinking hard on trip out that way somwtime. I might owe you a good meal someday if that trip comes to be!:steak::eatchicke:chowtime:

Soon enough we've gone from gravel to chip-seal to asphalt...

See if you can spot the school ballfield that's been irrigated...

The ferry dock at Bullfrog...

We're the only ones here, so we walk about a bit..

And wait for the ferry..

Before too long, we're joined by a motorcycle and the ferry docks...

Day 9 Part 9

We board the ferry, pay our $10 (or was it $15?) and sit in the sun for about half an hour..

I must admit, it's kind of nice to be going somewhere and not be glued to a Jeep seat..

The fellow taking the picture in the below picture is our only fellow traveller. He's on a Harley and we talk motorcycles and other such stuff for most of the ride. Great guy, even if he did just sell his KTM990 Adventure...
