Intro and thread for updates for my 98 ZJ

Hey all, new to the forum and new to the off-road world in general. I'm Jeremy, moved to Phoenix about a year ago, and have always been involved in sport compact, tuner, sports car type stuff with all focus on handling/performance. I've had friends into offroad a bit, but nothing more than a Wrangler ride through a mild park. So after moving here and realizing my current car is not built for this terrain, I had wanted to get something to handle the dirt here and I got into overlanding. Actually heard about this forum on Xoverland on youtube lol. Anyway, for a long time I had my heart set on an Xterra, and got a new job in December with a buddy that had an amazing ZJ built up for overland. And I always told myself, his was my goal to make the Xterra like. Well time went along, and he ended up needing to sell the ZJ and I was fortunate enough to be able to buy it. Personally not a fan of the bought not built life but knowing personally how well built this was, I couldn't pass it up.
Long story short, I don't know EXACTLY what's on it, and as I learn more or do my own pieces to it, I'll be updating this thread with my information found and learned.
As sad as it seems, and the years and years of building cars one way and expecting performance a certain to go to the complete opposite, taking the ZJ out over the weekend to see some dirt, made me realize how pathetically scared I was and needing to learn, and it was good, it drove me to want to learn more, to explore more and find out the side of automotive I've been missing all this time. And to clarify, it wasnt the rig that scared me, just my lack of knowledge in my own capabilities and what feels right/wrong. If you have any suggestions, tips, places I should check out near PHX, etc. please feel free to drop some knowledge on me! Also photography is a hobby of mine, the main reason for wanting to have a vehicle that could handle this terrain is to unlock some great photo ops. I don't plan to make a crawler or mudding or anything crazy, just don't want to be limited as I was with my other vehicle. Anyways sorry for such a long rant! HOPEFULLY this is the right section for an intro, I haven't used forums in probably 8 years, so I'm rusty!

tl;dr I'm Jeremy, I'm new, this is my 98 ZJ.

Things I do know about the ZJ
98
5.2 v8
4" lift
32x11.50r15's
lots of work done to make it entirely reliable.

Love it! This was a great source of info when I built my ZJ. If you need any help, feel free to ask! I'm building my second 5.9L ZJ right now.

Being out in the west, with that ZJ, make sure you're running a GOOD aux trans cooler. This is the one I am currently installing:

The 5.2's are known to have trans issues after awhile. Do what you can to head it off...trans fluid/filter regularly and a good cooler will go a long way!

Thanks for the heads up! The trans was rebuilt thanks to the previous owner not long ago, September I think, and I believe he did a cooler, but I will definitely be on top of that one, last thing I'd need to go wrong while I'm out!
And thank you for the offer of info, I'll definitely be needing it! Haha

Okay, so first question and probably a dumb one, I've done a lot of searching for answers so at this point just looking for opinions.

I have a 4" lift on the ZJ, the shocks on it kinda suck so looking to upgrade. I'm not going to crawl, I'm not going to do anything hardcore just travel and need the ability to go where I want while out.

I was thinking Bilstein 5100's but what do you guys think I should check out?
