Maybe I shouldn't try to pull wheelies up significant hills. Just a thought. I actually bent the cap bolts and spun the carrier bearing.I guess r&p sets are designed not to have debris roll through :( I'll be back on the road by Friday. Already drilled and tapped another cherry third member that has already be rebuilt not that long ago.

Gee, thanks! :)
Some guys I know go through a diff every weekend - me, I just go steady...

Does anybody have any experience with ashcrofts HD 3.55 r&p sets? I don't want to put a Salisbury in the rear of this 88. The stiff arb carriers and maxi-drive shafts have been very reliable. Any input on the gears would be appreciated.

I have to say I have never found the diffs in lr to be much of a problem , halfshafts (axles) in 10 spline 109 were more problematic when heavily loaded. I had a friend who used to do diffs in his 109 esp front ones , but he was totally deaf from birth so he had to drive by feel as he could not hear revs , say no more !

I've twice written to Land Rover over the appalling quality fo thier diffs - mine regularly fail at 250,000 miles or only 20 years. Shoddy workmanship I reckon

On a serious note I never even managed to break standard diffs with a JE 4.6 Supercharged lump - I feel it may be down to a very light and gentle right foot:ylsmoke:
