Well , we measured it front of tire then back of tire and got it to with in a "smidgen" of equal for the caster according to the service manual.

All the parts would have needed to be replaced at some point anyway, it is just funny that it possibly turns out to be the tires.

I still need to have a qualified shop do an alignment, but that is after I get some new tread on it.
With new adjustable upper and lower control arms, a good shop should be able to get everything squared up...

Hmmm.
What transfer case?

Actually I have seen belt seperation that will cause a slight lump in the tire but still balance okay. Glad it sounds like you got it figured out and you are right, old parts need to be replaced at some point anyways. Now you know you have many, many miles ahead without worry.

Ya, I've read about that to, Mike. But its wierd because I rotated the tires a couple of time, so I wrote off the tires as the culprit.
I had talked to a shop and the guy said that tires can get oblong and cause it to shake also...

Ihave a set of Goodyear Wranglers on my XJ that are behaving exactly as you described. I hit 55mph and the jeep is going to shake itself apart. They've been balanced so often that Sears hates to see me coming.

I put another set from a buddy on and it's like a new Jeep.

If I hadn't experienced this phenomanon(sp) myself, I would still think it was an urban myth:eek:
