Back when AMC and Jeep were one. Had the inline 6 I believe :)

Yeah, I like these old cars. "Jeep" should make a modern competitor to the Subaru. :)

Yeah, smart cars make a lot of sense in dense urban centres like you get in Europe/Asia.

In Canada (assuming same for U.S.), not so much.

Smart Cars are the most ridiculous pieces of junk ever made......

For a wide variety of reasons........

The compass was kind of a fluke. I've always thought jeep should make a small car like a Subaru Impreza or Outback. Can you imagine a jeep car with a inline 6 and a turbo driving rally races with WRX's? That would be simply awesome.

Agreed. A modern Jeep entry into the World Rally Cup realms akin to the Citroen or Focus would be awesome to see. I can't believe Subaru pulled out for 2009.

I love watching WRC style racing. Those guys are amazing. Simply the best drivers in the world.

(Congrats to Loeb though I was rooting for Mikko. Who knows if it would matter, but I would love to see Ford's Finn drive a Citroen just to see if the car would make any difference.)

Three of the vehicle's on the list are really the same one-Chrysler Sebrang, Dodge Calibre and Jeep Compass-all pretty much the same car and I've had all three as rentals and yes they all suck eggs. That Chrysler corp has four on a list of 10 worst speaks volumes about their current problems.

The SmartCar's come up a couple times here. I thought some might be amused by this un-staged shot I came across bombing around one Sunday morning on my bicycle. Only next to a SmartCar can a Mini be the limo of the lot.

They liked my Jeep! Quoted from This Jalopnik article:

"You know what endurance road racing has been missing all these years? Jeep Cherokees duking it out with RX-7s and E30s! Some people- bad people- will try to tell you that a Cherokee doesn't belong on a demanding track such as Thunderhill, but Petty Cash Racing disagrees. Will the Cherokee be able to use that AMC inline six power to beat its rival...?"

I will agree with that, I loved watching the Archer Brother's Team in the Comanche dominate the tracks.

New Jeeps

The boss'es bought acouple Jeep Patriots for one of our Patrol routes in the South Seattle-Kent area. Nobody likes'em, cheap, light not up to 150+ miles of stop-n-go driving 7 days a week.

I'm currently driving a 2004 GC Laredo, 4.0L I6. I bought it May-07 with 36600miles on it. The CarFax saidit had been a Fleet Lease in Detroit before it came to Seattle.

Replaced the Goodyear ST's right away with LS Open Country AT's. Been pretty happy so far. Great traction in everything they've seen so far. If the talking heads on TV were yakking about the worst snow, rain, wind storm on the books you can bet I was crossing one of Washingtons Mt passes during it.

Only problem has been flat protection. I drive a lot of FS roads, old logging roads, as much as I can. 4-5 flats a year, 2 on one trip.

I left something on(?) one night and had to jump it in the morning. 2 weeks later I'm driving through Eastern Wa, late Nov 20 some degrees icy fog. All the alarms go off needles waving like crazy. Hit a Les Schwab in Ritzville, the battery was showing 80amps. Replaced it.

That's the only real trouble I have had, got 64k+ on it now.

Thinking about a mild 2-3.5in lift (just enough to get from the road to that "perfect camp spot") I'm also looking for recomendations on really tough cut-puncture resistant tires.

Any suggestions?

Glad to see the PT Cruiser and H2 on that list. Although...they gave the H2 props for "real off-road chops"? I guess if you compare it to the other vehicles on the list...

I've got to agree with the top 10 list. Jeep should have kept it simply and strickly stuck with the basics (JK, XJ, and ZJ.) All other designs could have been developed under different badges. In the end, chrysler would have still pocketed the money.
