Off-roader, yeah I know the Trooper hubs don't fit the Monteros. But if something says "Aisin" on it, I always grab it, can't help myself...

Glad you found the Gen 2.5 billygoats, that's a perfect parts car for you. I didn't even notice that the key was in the ignition, that would've made things easier...I already re-keyed the lock cylinders I picked up to match my existing key. Thanks for the offer, though.

My driver side door lock will not unlock with the key. I can easily turn it left to lock, but it won't turn to the right to unlock. I've never tampered with locks, should I replace the lock?

What junkyard did you see that white gen 2.5. I'm at u pick parts In Sun valley and can't find it.. Was this at the other junkyard on glen oaks? I need the driver side front fender and door.

You can sell them to the Isuzu guys over on planet Isuzu or ebay.

Did you by chance grab the cargo cover, and what condition are the seat covers on the front buckets? Do you plan to use or sell the tail light guards?

MichaelVincent, the white 2.5 Gen is at the yard on Glen Oaks and Pendleton:

11201 Pendleton
Sun Valley, CA 91352

The SUVs are on the eastern side of the yard, and the white 2.5 is in the rear 1/3 of that group, if walking from the entrance. It was in the middle of the row. Good luck!

nwoods, inside the lock cylinder are tumblers which move up and down and mate with the steps on the key. When the tumblers are in the open position with the correct key, the inner cylinder should be able to turn in either direction. I'm not sure why yours would be able to turn one way and not the other unless there is some damage or wear inside your lock. The locks' internals are greased up pretty well from the factory, I'm not sure if squirting some graphite through the keyhole would help but it's worth a try.

jeep-n-montero, I didn't look to see if the actual cargo cover was back there. As for the seats, do you mean the aftermarket seat covers or the actual leather upholstery? The seat covers aren't worth taking and I didn't look under them to see if the leather upholstery was still any good. I might keep the tail light guards, not sure yet. I do have 2 Montero brush guards that I won't be using, one is a WAAG, and one is the Manik pictured above. If you're interested in either of those let me know.

Figured you did but I thought it wouldn't help to mention it since I've heard it asked if they fit since the rigs are so similar.

I've helped rekey a Honda Accord replacement ignition cylinder for a friend when his car was broken into before. Is it similar (disassemble, put tumblers in correct order for keys in, re-assemble) to that I assume? What was involved in the disassembly process? I recall with the honda's core using std tools including jewelers screw drivers & a swiss army knife, it was a little tricky to get it to come apart. Luckily I've never had to rekey mine but always good to know what's involved.

off-roader, yes, as you described, it's just a matter of matching tumblers to your key once you open the lock up. I'll post pics of a lock when I get home, I have a few apart.

The post about door locks is here.

I went through that 2.5gen this morning! Those things really are rare in the junk yards. I took both front bumper caps, the front seat cushion + motor switch, and some smaller items.

jeep-n-montero: The other cushion has tears in it, I didn't take it. I don't remember the condition of the seat backs.

I have an ARB front bumper going on but might be interested in those tail light guards if they actually do their job, some of them do more damage if pushed on than protect the light.

Yeah these tail light guards as they stand are for appearance rather than real protection. They attach to the tail light housings via sheet metal screws screwed into the plastic light housings themselves. If the guards are bumped, all the force would be applied to the light housing, which defeats the purpose of the guard in the first place. For them to be of any protective use, the current mounts would have to be adapted.

Are you familiar with these seat covers:

CABELAS IK-521945 Seat cover, TrailGear Front Bucket

Best I've seen for the price. They fit well enough and come in grey or brown (or camo).

Dual Tire Carrier Swing-out Build, Part III

Had a little bit more time with the bumper this weekend. Last time around off-roader mentioned sleeving the frame ends. I thought that was prudent advice, so sleeve I did.

3/4 x .120 DOM with 1/2" ID

Fitted to the frame.

Welded and cleaned up.

Next was to cut down the hinges. When I had last stopped they looked like this.

I decided the extra metal was excessive.

Better.

Then it was time to narrow the bumper.

WP_20140209_007.jpg

Capped the ends and finished them off.

Followed nwoods sage advice and beefed up the frame mounts with 1/4" gussets.

Test fit with what exists of the swing outs.

Improved mounts.

WP_20140209_025.jpg

The bumper is actually narrower than the rear quarters.

And that was it for the weekend.
