Joshua Tree 2008

Excellent pictures. Gets me motivated to go there....

We are thinking of heading to Joshua Tree for NYE. We were there last spring when all the flowers were in full force, but we are wondering what it would be like during December. Would we be better off going in the springtime again?

Any idea of the # of people there in winter?

Much more crowded in the winter vs. the summer. One of the reasons why i went now.. But the temps are really high right now out there, 103-105 during the day. Basically like going to Death Valley in the summer, just not "as' hot. So the local CA people stay away since most are hikers and climbers. Mostly all people that are there right now are passing through or are crazy and love heat :D Most go in the winter when the temps are much cooler during the day, but get really really cold during the night. Im not sure when the best time to go is where you won't run into crowds or not. It's hard to tell.

As I suspected...We were really lucky last spring, as it was really quiet. We had a rental car, so we didn't head off the main roads, but we took some great photos. It is amazing the colors that come out of that desert landscape.

Thanks for the input.:camping:

Nice writeup. I love Joshua Tree. There is so much to see and do. I went for an over-nighter back in July and man was it hot!

Cool trip! Bummer you didn't make it up Santa Rosa, we camped at the top Sunday/Monday. Would've been cool to see you two and checkout the SMB.
