Knife Cleaning

I just looked at my benchmade and the inside of it is damn dirty. It's getting pretty filthy. It's worn everyday and used everyday. The local knife shop will not clean it. My question is, does anyone know of a solution i can drop it in and let it sit for a few days to clean it?

WD40 makes a pretty good solvent, not overly aggressive but will work over time. Something to think about depending on the handle material. is it a model that you can take apart yourself?

Handle is made from metal, so im good there. Yeah i was trying to avoid taking it apart.. but i guess i could if i had too.

Depending on the nature of the gunk you could try a gun cleaning solvent like Powder Blast from Break Free or some other type that won't harm the grips.

I would send it in to Benchmade before taking it apart and have it sharpened while you were at it. Their customer service rocks.

I just cleaned mine the other day. Hot soapy water and a brush with long bristles, dry with compressed air, wipe down with silicon cloth, and a couple of drops of oil on the hinge and lock.

Yeah, im hesitant to send it off to benchmade... their turn around time is too slow. I'll try soap and water first. It's mainly just pocket lent inside the casing that i can see.

If it's all metal, why not some brake cleaner and compressed air? It isn't a fine watch.

Or your could make up some "Ed's Red" and clean it really well and lube it a bit besides.

Try Strikehold... You can get it from Specialtytools.com

You won't find anything like it. You can clean guns, water proof a dizzy and the list goes on from there.
