Which McD's

John I think we need to clarify which McD's we are meeting at. I just thought it was the one at Tanque Verde and Catalina Hwy/road to mount Lemon. Some are thinking its the one at Grant and Tanque Verde.
Please verify which one.

I take Cherokee out there all the time (well, whenever I go). The worst part of it is the cattle guards. Cherokee didn't quite make it over one once, and hurt herself (she's good at that), so now she doesn't like 'em at all....so I gotta stop and carry her across them.

As for the 3.0 rating.........lets just say that we took a stock '85 toyota pickup through there, and were almost to the last big downhill section leading down to the falls....before we figured out that the toyota had a frozen hub....so he did the whole trail (sans the last hill) in 2wd. Unless it has severly washed out in the last couple months, it is a stock friendly trail (but will keep the driver of that stock vehicle on his/her toes). There are quite a few optional lines to keep it "fun" for those so inclined.

I remember Cherokee. Awesome Dog! With that being said, there is a HUGE difference between her and my dogs. Mine are older, kinda out of shape, and Wil spoils them :hehe: They are great and well behaved tho.

I just don't want their heads bouncing all over the place

I live very close to there, so I go frequently. I see stock Suzuki Sammies out there all the time. Pick your line and you will be fine.
The creek is pretty shallow by now. It hasn't rained much in 2 weeks so the water has mostly drained out of the area. It's been a month since I last went (busy modding the rig and the house) and the falls weren't running hard then.

I love that trail for its convenience for me. I can be on the dirt in 15 minutes and shifting to low in another 15. :ylsmoke:

I won't be joining you though, I'm still only 1/2 done with my gear swap on the rig.

The first mile ~mile and a half are on the "bumpy" side. Not really difficult...but lots of small stuff in the trail (8 - 10" tall). Cherokee hates riding in the jeep for that part of the trail. Speeds are generally pretty slow. After that, the trail smooths out quite a bit, higher speeds are normal, but the ride is much smoother. As you approach the falls, it gets rougher again, so speed drops off a bit.

If Cherokee had to ride in the jeep the whole time, I don't think I'd take her. But that said....she REALLY doesn't like riding in the jeep off road. She wedges her butt into a corner and stares at me like I am torturing her.

Yes...good idea. It's at the "V" at Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway. It's here that Reddington Road begins. You take the right fork (the more straight road) and McDonalds is there JUST past the light in the shopping center.

Usually we meet at the last CirlceK on Reddington Road, though they don't let folks use the bathrooms. I figured that might be tough for traveling Phoenicians. :yikes:

I'd like to make it to this run but I have two questions for you all. What is a 3.0 trail for you guys and what would you consider the minimum vehicle requirements? Thanks.:beer:

Most stock vehicles can run the trail to the wash without a problem. From the wash to the Falls one could use more ground clearance. Whatcha got?

To further clarify (or confuse)....the McD in question is on the North East corner of the intersection. Drive past the stop light at Catalina HWY (do not turn left here!!!!). McD is on the left 50 yards after the stop light.

Anyone up for breakfast before the trail (not at mcdonalds)?

Wil, Here's what I got off Mapquest for the Mickey Ds at Tanque Verde and Grant. That's the one I think that's the closest to Reddington Road.

7: Merge onto I-10 E via the exit on the LEFT toward GLOBE / TUCSON. 107.1 miles Map

8: Take EXIT 256 toward GRANT RD. 0.3 miles Map

9: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto N FREEWAY RD. <0.1 miles Map

10: Turn LEFT onto W GRANT RD. 8.4 miles Map

11: Turn LEFT onto E TANQUE VERDE RD. 3.2 miles Map

12: End at Mc Donald's
