and a next to overheating engine to boot! A healthy chev v8 like that makes alot of heat and I make you a bet the cooling system is marginal.

Chet, I know you appreciate quality stuff. I'm familiar with that truck and it's owner. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that nothing on that outfit is marginal.

He's one of those guys, who doesn't miss a thing.

I posted a link to his ad here a couple of weeks ago. He's not a desperate seller. His just has his eye on something else. Yeah, he's one of those guys too. ;)

Thanks KC he sould add any custom cooling stuff to his ad. Anyone that has stuffed a chev v8 into the early toys (me included)knows they can be a real pain to keep cool without major cash outlay so I think it would be a good selling feature as it probably has a $$$ rad in it! Very cool truck. I love the '79-83 toys I have had 3 of them.

This makes me re-think the whole Earthroamer XV-JP idea.

The XV-JP has an internal shower, and you might be able to
put seatbelts in for the two seats in the camper. Otherwise,
the two vehicles have similar capacities.

I'd guess that the Toyota with Chev V8 might get better mpg
than the Jeep on the highway. And after you lift off the
4 Wheel Camper, you've got a useful and unique pickup.

Does anyone have experience with how the Toyota front axle
will hold up to the torque of the V8? (Final crawl ratio is 215:1.)

it should be fine but I would upgrade the birfs to longfields and do some gusseting on the housing. thats alot of extra weight on a housing already known to bend.

Wow. Nice....and you could sneak by with putting a value of $3,000 or so on the carnet for an inexpensive RTW rig!

Agreed.. You can throw enough money at the Toy 8" to be near the strength of a D60 for the wieght and size relative to the truck...

Longfields
Chomoly shafts
Aisin hubs ~ No Warns!
6 stud knuckles
bracing and gusseting
