That's a Beauty! I would almost trade my 80 for it, i said ALMOST! I dig the steel wheel look with the sand color. The simpler the better. I like the way the ladder swings open too.

He's missing the rear kaymar tail lights.

That thing is sweet. I wonder what wheels those are. I tried to fit similar wheels to my old '82 FJ60 and the back spacing wouldn't work for the front brake clearance. I couldn't find any in an appropriate spacing either. 60's rule, can't wait till I can pick up another one some day. Having learned what I now know through experience over the years, I think a 60 would fit me the best with the things I like to do, when set up appropriately.

That is one nice rig!

My dad bought one of those in '84. I distinctly remember going with him when I was 4 to drive home from Desert Toyota.

I don't understand his choice of wheels. Split rims??? Dangerous, no internal bead lock, heavy, almost impossible to balance, must run tube's, and did I mention Dangerous! No thanks. The rest of the rig is very nice though.

Uh, did you check out the "buy it now" price? :Wow1:

it's nice but it damn sure isn't $23k nice! What did that truck sell for brand new in 1984 - maybe $15 - $16k? That was back when you could get a new Trooper for around $10-$11k.

Pretty sure you can pick up an FJ-80 in decent condition for a lot less than $23k. Last time I checked one of the LC rebuild places was selling rebuilt, warranteed FJ-40s for around $15k, but that was several years ago.

The sticker price on our '84 was $14,500.

Split rims are still very popular in some corners of Africa. I believe Toyota still sell new Land Cruisers with split rims.

Our Australian Troopie came with them but the previous owner replaced them with some other models - like most people do in Africa.

they do look very nice!

that thing is sweet .. I don't understand though how you can keep a vehicle in such good shape. One trip out in the 4Runner (it looked like that when I bought it, albeit 17 years newer) and it had pinstripes and more ..

oh, and it's sticker (he has a picture) was $15,168 in 84.
