Look what I found on Friday...

Key to the left of the steering wheel is stock, just like my Rover:)

A FJ55 in Hawaii reminds me of the movie "50 First Dates"!

Thanks again for the compliments!! Drove in to work today. The speedo works intermittently, so it was fun trying to guess how fast I was going on the freeway. F engine howling all the way.

I noticed the Superwinch front hubs… definitely going to need to swap those out at some point. Also need to figure out what’s going on with the front driver’s side door. I think its sagging a little bit, so it doesn’t close properly and therefore I can’t really lock it. The rear window also decided that it didn’t want to go all the way up this morning. I’m learning that vinyl seats and humidity don’t work too well together on my rear-end.

It appears that the frame was undercoated at some point so there is only some surface rust, mostly on the subframe.

I’m very excited though as this is going to be a work in progress for some time to come. Right now, I plan on just trying to sort out a few bugs and driving and enjoying. It looks like I'm finally going to have to improve my mechanical skills, right now I'm about here (insert 1 banana).

Chuck, that is easily the nicest 55 I have ever seen, and I saw them new in the dealer lot!

Terrific find. Now go get a set of original wheels for it...

I've got a '55 as well! I may be able to find you a set of '55 front seat belts if you want. There are two '55's at the wreckers here in Guatemala. I've also got a spare set of original hub caps if you want. They were on my '67 FJ45LV but they are not period correct for that truck.

With regards to the rear window, take a look at the rear window motor. There is a plastic gear that's about 2" diameter and those tend to crumble over time. I'm making up some for other '55 owners out of brass instead of plastic for the long term "Piggy" owners. If you're interested in a brass gear PM me for details.

Here's a picture of our '55 in Mexico on the way to Guatemala in March. I've since put on the correct front signal lights and I'm doing a few other things to it. It has a turbo diesel in it already!

There is a set of 33"x9.5"x15" tires to go on as well as the PTO on the front and the A/C fixed up.

The front door hinges on the FJ55 wear out. The easiest solution is to look for a pair in good shape and simply swap them out. I'm not sure if anyone is making a bushing kit? I'd grab one of those gears that Cruiser Guy is building as that is one of the harder things to find on the Pigs. At one point I had a complete motor, gear and lifting arms for the rear window. How is the rubber around the rear glass?

The rubber is in pretty good shape, but the window is acting up. I'm going to take a look at it this weekend. I'll snap some better picts this weekend and highlight some of the problem areas. Will the tailgate open with the window up or does it have to be down? I guess I'm going to have to start keeping my eye out for donor rigs :Astrologist: .

Nope! You have to lower the window ALL the way to open the tailgate. To get to the window mechanism though the window needs to be in the UP position. You can do that by holding the lockout switch in when the tailgate is open and then either turn the tailgate key or have someone activate the dash switch. Be careful that the window doesn't come all the way out!

The lockout switch is on the left side of the tailgate opening when the tailgate is open.

Howdy Chuck, great looking ferrite porker. I've had two and loved them both. One I left mostly stock....weber carb and Thorley header. That made a big difference. The other I did a spring over shackle reversal, rear detroit locker, gm power cross over steering, Detroit 6.2 diesel with a Banks turbo, 700r4 tranny and 203 to Toyota t-cases. Running 35's it would flat scream! If I had found a non rust beauty like your I would have kept it. They are amazing and beautiful rigs.
