Luggage Repair

When I graduated 15 years ago, my proud parents bought me a great Korchmar leather briefcase. I glimpsed the receipt, and remember that it cost much more than they could afford. Needless to say, I’ve used it continuously ever since and it means a lot to me.

After 15 years of solid use, some of the stitching is starting to give up. It hasn’t fallen apart yet, but I’m taking no chances. Unfortunately, Korchmar doesn't repair their stuff (bummer, I'd get a Filson or similar next time). Can anyone recommend a repair place for leather luggage, preferably in southern California? I’m looking to keep this forever, and want it fixed properly.

If all else fails, there's a shoe repair place near my house.

Kevin-

I've had good luck with shoe repair shops. Stop in and get a feel for the place. If you see a lot of baseball gloves and expensive-looking cowboy boots in the work mix, that's a good sign. A lot of shoe repair guys are craftsman in the old-world style.
