What material's were used for your lid? Is it all a single sheet that has been bent at the edges or is there some kind of frame with a skin? What thickness of sheet was used? Looks very nice.

the lid is one piece laser cut and CNC formed. it is made of 10ga steel, 0.1345 thick (kinda between 1/8" and 3/16"). the whole lids weighs in at around 150lbs. it has no frame or stiffeners and i dont plan on using any. it is very stiff and strong.

ok the final piece installed. well....the final bit of the current construction phase. now just to put the tent and awning on. so this is the counter for cooking or what have you. it slides onto 2 mini receivers on the passenger side of the trailer, that is also the side that the lid opens on and the tent will fold out the drivers side. above this will be the pull out awning. take a look.....

I Love It!

I love what you have done! I wish I could find one of the old army trailers here in the south. Right now I'm planning building a removable box to place on a flatbed utility trailer.

I like the countertop and the way it stows away. Any pics of the inside of the bed where the recievers are? Or how you mounted them?

I'm thinking about using your idea for our scout camping trailer. we have a 16x8 enclosed trailer we have modded to hold all our cooking gear in. we now use four folding tables for cooking tables. We have access to a set of stainless steel cook tops. I'm wondering about determining a way for them to slide them in similarly to the way you designed.

you have enough cooking gear to fill a 16x8 trailer?????? are you a chef:chef:

no seriously of course thats why we all post these things, any ideas anybody likes they are of course welcome to use/modify/whatever. or if you have an improvement to anything i have done please let me know....maybe i will want to do it myself.

cheers and good luck.

I need to get some pictures for ya'll. When we go camping we take 30 cubscouts plus parents and siblings. So yea i guess I'm part chef or at least I need to cange my nick name to cookie!
Short list of what we usually take fo a weekend campout:
4 - 100 qt coolers
4 - 8ft folding tables
2 - 10'x20' garage canopies
4 - assorted tarps
2 - 3 burner cookers plus cast iron griddles
2 - sigle burner cookers
8 - 20 lbs. propane tanks
4 - turkey pots
6 - smaller pots
Food to feed a minimum of 70 people per meal per day.

Thats what i can remember now. I will get an itemized list and start my on thread and quit hijacking yours.

well i have finally gotten home from work (india) and pickd up the trailer from the friend doing all the wonderful work. we installed the tent and i just finished the pullout awning (camping lab)....it is all great. just in the process of doing the propane, water and power. already picked up a deep cycle gel cell and water pump. cant wait to use it, so this summer i think it will just get a spray bom paint job until next fall when i can strip it apart for a real good painting.

the awning is mounted on 2 rods that are adjustable so it can be raised for use and lowered for transit. and no i didnt plan for the tent to be the exact size as the top of the trailer but that is a nice bonus. we will be using the until this weekend for a night or two so will post up a bit of a review on the tent and awning but so far it is great. the tent goes up in about 3 minutes and the awning is about the same. they are made of a ripstop material and it feels/looks strong....time will tell. ok better back to work on it....

Very cool. It's looking better all the time. The tent/awning setup with your kitchen shelf is really cool.

Nice set up. I love everything y'all have done. It looks so beefy with the fenders and everything tied together. It's definately one of the classiest mil trailers I'ver ever seen. I can't wait to see it painted. That counter top rocks too.

in the pics it looks like it is weighing down the back of the jeep but i had one of my tool boxes in the jeep full of tools....when the jeep isnt loaded down with that it sits nice and level as long as i load the trailer correctly without too much tongue weight.
