M101CDN offroad RTT trailer

Hi Overland. That's a great looking trailer. Very nice work. For the awning could you hinge the support posts halfway between the trailer body and the awning housing? This way in transit the posts would be folded with the hinges at the top and the awning sitting down low on the brackets. The weight of the awning during travel would then be on the bracket/body with no weight on the posts. You could pin it down to lock it. On arrival, unlock it, and swing out and up 180deg and have the posts lock into position. The bottom half of the post could be channel and the top half square tube that sits inside the channel. The channel would be about 4 inches longer than the tube with another pin (possibly a spring loaded catch to be automatic) to lock it in the up position.

I like this as there is absolutely no load on the posts in transit with the awning sitting down low on the mounting brackets against the trailer body.

Good luck with the rest of it.

No problem. In my head I've totally resolved it including the clamping system. :) Let me know if you want any more input. Otherwise I look forward to seeing it!

If Martyn reads this, maybe I can get a consultancy job for R & D?? :D That'd be a lot of fun.

i wish it had been that easy....but it actually wasnt too hard. i opened up the light bodies, there are circuit bords in there for the night time military running lights....throw them away. now the 24volt bulbs, hang onto them so you can take them to the parts store and match the twist lock pins on them for the same but on 12volt bulbs. comming out the back on my light bodies there are 4 wires, i just used 2. the light body is the ground, so just test the wires for which one goes to the centre pin on each of the bulb mounts. these are the only 2 you need, one for brake/signal, one for running lights. the other 2 that were the night time military stuff i just cut off. go get your 12 volt bulbs that fit, hook up the 2 wires that you need and voila...12 volt trailer lights. i am not at home or i would get some pics for ya. hope this help anyway.

oh yeah i removed the whole wiring harness from the trailer and ran all new wires and did the connections right at the back of the light bodies just so everything was new and i could then use a 4 pin regular trailer connector.

I followed your advice by throwing out the circuit boards, but then I placed 12 volt bulbs in there as well. I hooked them both up to my reverse lights. They provide some help on those dark nights.

Most innovative feature on this trailer is the combo landing leg/spare tire carrier on the rear receiver. That's a great idea.

Howdy all, it's been sometime since this was updated. i am reposting a couple pics because they show the parts I am talking about best. I am not trying to be a vendor and this is a one time deal as these parts are sitting around and it's time for them to go. If I am somehow out of line then mods please remove the necessary post not the whole thread...? anyway moving on, when this trailer was built there were plans for 6 of them, well 4 have been built but 2 have

Canada. if anyone is interested drop me a PM.

cheers

Hey Overland. Great buildup. I've been building up my own M101CDN lately. You mentioned you've got a couple sets of fenders..... I may be interested. Could you pm me a price. I'm up in Kamloops, so not that far away.
Cheers

do you have any pics of the trailer with the box on the vehicle jackknifed.

i am trying to see how much it takes away before it hits the back of the truck if you need to jackknife it.

i understand what your looking for but dont have those pictures with me and i am currently away from home working. if they are still around when i get home in a couple weeks i'll grab some pics for ya. on my YJ i was able to get the jeep and trailer past 90 degrees before they made contact.

as for the guys that asked for a price, $450.00. if it sounds expensive just look back through my build as you can see the quality and strength of these things. they are an exact fit for an M101CDN. they were designed by a pro on CAD, laser cut, CNC bent and welded up by a pro. you can use them as steps on the side of your trailer or storage. they will hold a propane bottle or extra fuel no problem. i climb on mine all the time. they are also primed and ready for a scuff and paint.

a note***they are located in Vernon B.C. Canada and they are heavy. if you wanted them shipped i would imagine that would be pricey especially to the states. but if anyone is serious i will look into it when i get home. as for local pick up i can arrange for someone to be there to take your money and give them to you anytime even while I am away, just send me a pm and we can get the ball rolling.

i do have just that one tongue box remaining and if anyone is interested in it i have more pics and a few measurements. the price for it is $350.00

cheers

send me some pics when you get home
edit: just took a better look at your truck, looks like your pintle probably sticks out a bit which puts your trailer farther back.
