looks really good. nice job,
Hi Overland. That's a great looking trailer. Very nice work. For the awning could you hinge the support posts halfway between the trailer body and the awning housing? This way in transit the posts would be folded with the hinges at the top and the awning sitting down low on the brackets. The weight of the awning during travel would then be on the bracket/body with no weight on the posts. You could pin it down to lock it. On arrival, unlock it, and swing out and up 180deg and have the posts lock into position. The bottom half of the post could be channel and the top half square tube that sits inside the channel. The channel would be about 4 inches longer than the tube with another pin (possibly a spring loaded catch to be automatic) to lock it in the up position.
I like this as there is absolutely no load on the posts in transit with the awning sitting down low on the mounting brackets against the trailer body.
Good luck with the rest of it.
No problem. In my head I've totally resolved it including the clamping system.i like it, thanks for the thoughts. will look into something like this i think...
i wish it had been that easy....but it actually wasnt too hard. i opened up the light bodies, there are circuit bords in there for the night time military running lights....throw them away. now the 24volt bulbs, hang onto them so you can take them to the parts store and match the twist lock pins on them for the same but on 12volt bulbs. comming out the back on my light bodies there are 4 wires, i just used 2. the light body is the ground, so just test the wires for which one goes to the centre pin on each of the bulb mounts. these are the only 2 you need, one for brake/signal, one for running lights. the other 2 that were the night time military stuff i just cut off. go get your 12 volt bulbs that fit, hook up the 2 wires that you need and voila...12 volt trailer lights. i am not at home or i would get some pics for ya. hope this help anyway.
oh yeah i removed the whole wiring harness from the trailer and ran all new wires and did the connections right at the back of the light bodies just so everything was new and i could then use a 4 pin regular trailer connector.
Howdy all, it's been sometime since this was updated. i am reposting a couple pics because they show the parts I am talking about best. I am not trying to be a vendor and this is a one time deal as these parts are sitting around and it's time for them to go. If I am somehow out of line then mods please remove the necessary post not the whole thread...? anyway moving on, when this trailer was built there were plans for 6 of them, well 4 have been built but 2 have backed out so there are 2 full sets of these fenders sitting in my garage. also one tongue box. the green trailer in the pics is my M101 CDN, the silver one is a friends custom home built and as you can see the same fenders worked on both, i can get dimensions if you like, the steel is 10 guage I believe but I can confirm...these are heavy duty. located in Vernon B.C. Canada. if anyone is interested drop me a PM.
cheers
do you have any pics of the trailer with the box on the vehicle jackknifed.
i am trying to see how much it takes away before it hits the back of the truck if you need to jackknife it.
