m416 new axle size?

You guys that are using Toyota wheels on your trailers, how are you doing it? I know you can get an axle with correct bolt pattern but do the Toyota wheels fit then? Seems I've read some are using spacers that are hub centric like the Toyota wheels. If I need to run a spacer, that will definitely need to be a known before I order an axle! Thanks for any advice!

I ordered the 55" axle for the m416. Will update when it comes it as to fit!

I'm looking forward to hearing about your results. I am also looking at running FJ 17's to match those on my Tacoma, but I am rebuilding a Bantam T3-C. My calculations also led me to 55", but I am concerned about the wheels rubbing on the tub.

For those who own these trailers, how much does the axle actually articulate under load?

What pricing are you guys getting new axles for? Just priced 58.5" hub face & 39" spring center with 5 on 5" & elec. brakes for $252.00.

Not much in the way of articulation in mine. Most of the trailer's articulation happens at the hitch. Suspension just soaks up the bumps and keeps the trailer from bouncing all over. I still have mine a spring under so with all my camping gear, fuel, water and the 32" tires I have about a 1.5" gap till tires meet fender.

I paid 169.00 for mine but did not order brakes.

Just repriced the same axle without brakes. 125.00 . Not sure that I really want to spend double to get brakes on it.

Mine ran about $125 too. No brakes either. The FJ wheels work without spacers but you have to take the center cap off. If you want to keep the center cap on you have to run spacers.

After a month of waiting. An extra two weeks cause the axle missed the truck by a few hours to get here and the truck only travels once every two weeks, ugggg. I got the 55" axle today and mocked it in front of the trailer with the FJ wheels and 265/70/17 and looks like it will all fit. Problem came when I tried to put the FJ lug nuts on and it turns out the studs came in 1/2 x 20 so that was a no go. Had to go to Discount Tire and had them order me some new lugs. Might get it on in the next couple of weeks with pics to come!

I'm planning to use OEM Toyota 16" spare steelies with 245/75 R16 tires to somewhat replicate the original equipment look.

I don't have a second rim yet to measure axle width, but it appears 58" may be in the ball park of what I'll need to order.

Later, I may adopt a narrower tire, but having the same overall diameter as the 265/75 R17 on my truck, so in a crunch I could use the trailer spare on my truck, if needed.

Area 52- I plan on same setup as you. Based on the backspace of the Toyota wheel and the measuring the M416 axle I am figuring 58" as well on the new axle This will give me the ability to run the steelie or the TRD OR Wheels.

I was able to acquire an exact duplicate rim and tire and was able to get my measurements.

I lined up, propped and squared the rims on both sides of the tub and positioned the tires 1/2 inch away from the tub sides.

It came in at 55", so I'll order either a 57" or 58" axle with electric brakes.

It shows 55 1/2 in the image because I had the far side of the tape hooked on the outside of the far side rim.

Out with the old and in with the new Dexter 55"

Mocked up with my 265/70/17 snow tires to make sure it will all clear and it looks good! They stick out of the fenders a little but not too much.

Side view. I think there is plenty of clearance from the fenders. The suspension is stiff and does not move much.

And with the FJ!
