Mac to wireless printer hub?

Has anyone done this successfully? Print and scan to an HP all-in-one.

I have a nice wireless G printer server but it does not work with mac.

Airport Express would be slick, but I have read issues with the croaking after only 12 months or so.

If your solution works, what did you use?

I've been using a Airport express for 2 years now. Now problems whatsover.

Maybe the reason why it's not lasting you more than 12 months is cause they don't last that long. They do crap out after about a year from what i heard.. so that's about right.

same here. as a matter of fact, i have never had any issues with the apple wireless systems. (airport card in my G4 PB = 4 years, airport basestation = 5 years, airport extreme card in my G5 tower = 2 years, aiport extreme basestation to extend network = 6 months, and my airport express = 2 years) all have been solid as a rock.

Not really what your asking for, but it may help:

This is the solution I use with my PC. I know for a fact it works exactly the same with a Mac (OS 10).

I have an HP LaserJet 3055. This is the key: it's a fully network capable printer/scanner/fax/copier with a WIRED ethernet connection built in. I ran a cable from the printer to my D-link wireless router and setup the printer with a static address with access only to the internal network (not the web). The HP software then lets you setup the printer/scanner/fax/copier using an IP address. No print server required... the printer acts like a PC on the network.

It works really slick. I have full control over all of the functions from any PC on my network - wired or wireless.

Another option you may be able to do is add a USB network adapter to the printer if it's network capable but can't do ethernet. It all depends on the printer though...

Hope that helps ;)

Ditto ;)

sometimes there is no substitute for hillbilly wire across the carpet or over the roof :yikes:

check the documentation for your print server...not all of them are mac compatible. I've had bad luck with D-link products, but linksys (since cisco bought them) have been great...

I've been using a new Airport Extreme basestation for about 4 months now (since they came out) and have had exactly 0 problems. It has a built in usb port (or you can attach a hub), and the print server functionality has been flawless for 3 mac laptops and one desktop PC. The express devices were never meant to be used as full time print servers, that's the primary reason they crap out after a year. If you use them as network extenders, or for travel, they'll live a good long life...

Thats what I needed to hear. Thank you.

I do not actually own any AirPort products, just relaying comments on the apple store.

Gotta remember, there are two different devices being talked about, the Basestation and the Express...I'm using the base station, about the size and shape of a Mac Mini, works beautifully, if you have a non-intel mac, you'll need to use the cd to install the newer version of the airport software...then you're good to go.
