MaxTrax Mounting...?

I have about ran out of places to mount anything on my FJ Cruiser... Has anyone else mounted their MaxTrax on (top of) their ARB bumper? Any other mounting location ideas? I would mount them on the spare tire, but think my rear rack and/or rotopax may get in the way?

Have you seen how some of the Toyota guys in South America mount them...? Not sure how it works and if they sell an FJ Cruiser specific version but they mount them on these racks right above the hood. Look up a company called Terrain 4wd in Venzuela. You should find a few pictures of what I'm talking about. Hope this helps...!

I mounted my Treds on my Garvin roofrack with U bolts on both ends.
I have also seen people carry them in their trasharoo's. They have cut the seam in the back so them can still close the flap.
What about mounting them on the side of your roofrack?

mouse007 is right, down here people use a sort of hood rack to mount traction mats and solar panels on it.

I think it looks hideous, plus its impractical (like the spare mounted on a vintage LR or Defender's hood), but it does the job and makes use of otherwise unused space..

Here are a few links to look at them for inspiration.

Mind you, 4x4's are all the rage now in Venezuela (sort of a hype) so vehicles are built to turn heads and draw attention rather than being practical, a lot of the modifications might look over the top, slightly stupid or completely useless.

I don't own a set (although I should be saving for one) but when I get one i will mount them on the underside of my roof rack to take up the dead space.

Hope this helps,

Luis

I'm not sure what your current set up looks like but I mounted them to the side of my Bajarack. I have seen people do this on many other types of racks as well. Bajarack actually makes mounts specifically for them.

I have a newer low profile BajaRack and I am using Fourtreks mounts plus Maxtrax mounting pins for my Maxtrax. If I get a RTT, I plan to rotate the mounts 180degrees opposite so that they lay on the side of the roof so that they do not take up any space on top.

I'm not crazy about the idea of mounting anything on my hood... The TraxRax look functional, but I worry it would get in the way of my awning or RTT.

I guess I should post some photos of what I am working with to give you all a better idea.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Given that your RTT and awning are taking up eligible rack positions I think you best bet is to either modify your Trasharoo to accommodate the trax or to mount them on the tire behind the Trasharoo as shown in the example photo below.

Would it be possible to mount the Trax horizontally? Or would it cover my tail/brake lights?

I would mount vertically as in the photo, but I have a rack that over my spare tire that would likely be in the way...

Yes, I have seen them mounted horizontally as well. Another option may be to mount them between the roof and the rack to save space (doesn't work with all racks). I have also seen them mounted behind roof light bar in an air dam like configuration (probably requires custom brackets).
