Any updates on a shorter version of the MAXTRAX?

3.77' (115 cm) long, 13" (33 cm) wide and 2.75" (7 cm) high. Two stacked MAXTRAX are just 3.3" (8.5 cm) high.

I'm trying to figure out how I'd mount these on my truck.
Obviously the Maxtrax mounting pins would be the easiest solution but I don't have much roof space. I'd like to mount them on the side of the truck using the pins but in the notes it says the must be used vertically.
Why?

Mounting the pins horizontally puts them under far more stress than mounting them vertically, as they are bearing the entire weight of the MAXTRAX as opposed to simply securing the MAXTRAX in place on a roof rack thats bearing the weight. Four M10 bolts can bear quite a load though.
