Orange Velo rack on Moonlander

Justin, thanks for taking those fork measurements. While I'm waiting for that custom rack project to come to fruition, another option is the Orange Velo porteur rack currently on the front of my Moonlander. Here is the bike in pick-a-nick mode. Ha ha!

I'm using Surly rack tubular upper arms and hardware instead of the flat brake bolt arm that comes with the OV rack. The Surly parts are available separately.

Better look at the surly bits.

You can see some slight bowing of the legs from being spread to fit the bosses, but I'm not worried about it. No clearance problems with the tire.

Close, but the paint is safe.

And 1 tire runs from $165 to $170. It's also expensive to feed.

Are you kidding me? I guess I had not looked into the cost of tires... that's a serious chunk of change for new shoes.

The tires are expensive. I have purchased them online for $100. Have you thought about loosing your training wheel. Cuts the cost in half!




On a side note I took the Moonlander for a spin out at La Costa Preserve the other day. I still enjoy exploring with it and hope to get some more miles in during the next couple of months.


At the beginning of summer my boys and I took up skateboarding. It has been 20+ years for me, but I was bound and determined to learn to ride the bowls. That lead me to pushing it a little to far and by the end of summer I was having some serious sciatica pain shooting down my right leg. This has lead to a couple of months of down time and now with my weight up I need to get active again. With or without the pain.



I am still holding my own against my boys, but they are giving me a run for my money. Above, the only trick I really wanted to master was the Smith Grind.


My youngest, Nathan(8) has got his ollies down. This was on the flat ground.


Ethan age 10 is ripping up the single track on the unicycle.

Now get out there and have some fun!!!

I just noticed this thread - that's right behind my house, I love hiking my dog up there!

Love the bike, too, I'm trying to rationalize getting one.

We should get an Expo ride together up there. It's right out my backdoor also, and I'm up there 2 times a week.

Thanks! We are putting more time into it these days.
