Great write-up!

The Mojave Road is one trail that is still in my "must do" file. Looks like you had a great guide with the inside track on some must see's out there. Cool, cool stuff.

And a belated Happy Birthday too -

Thanks as always to you and the better half. I always just want to put my Tilley hat on and step into the scene. Congratulations also on the new digs!

I should be thanking you, for posting the trip dates and getting people motivated to get out and see the desert.
I had a great time and it was nice to meet all of you. I was very impressed with how well Brian handled having two kids traveling with him.

Actually as much fun as I had driving across the desert on the Mojave Road. I think my favorite part of the trip was Saturday morning walking with the kids while we were stalking/hunting for desert tortoise. It is so cool to see the wilderness through the eyes of children.

Cheers,

Matt

thanks for the nice write up along with the pics. Sweet and to the point - and nice rigs.

I'm looking at doing this trail as well in the near future.

Looks like it was a great trip, and thanks for the awesome trip report!

I thought camping wasn't allowed in Afton Canyon, other than the developed campgrounds? Could be that I was misled.

BTW, if you ever have time, the rest of the MR to the West of where you exited is also very interesting.

I don't know if that's true or not. I know that a member of our group camped there last time too.. doesn't make it false though.

We had a our own fire ring tub.. also.

That site was amazing.

I believe the only area you need to stay clear of is the ACEC area west & SW of Afton Canyon campground. I believe everything south & SE is BLM & open for primitive camping, & of course the campground itself.

Okay, I found the source for camping regulations. The BLM doesn't make it easy to find, but on this page, it is stated twice that you can camp only in the designated campground. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, like I said, it took some looking to find this regulation, the BLM really should make this more clear.
